For a band as hugh as metallica i'm surpised to have only seen 1 thread about them here.
Well I like them aye, a good solid band and that (however I'm not one of those people completle crazy about them). There early stuff is good up to Black but I do rather like the St Anger album.

I have St. Anger and the only songs I like on it are "Some Kind Of Monster" and "Shoot Me Again" [I think that's what they're called]. Lars Ulrich is one crazy drummer. :D

If we were to design a test, a kind of "natural selection for stupid people", a test which would weed out the ridiculously stupid by various "traps" in society, I think owning St Anger may be one of those traps. In fact, it may be one of the most important.

Are you directing that post towards me? I think a lot of people that bought it either "REALLY" support Metallica or "Wanted to hear what it was like" so no it isn't a trap for picking out the "natural selection for stupid people"

Thank, you, anarcho-communist, for, again, making an example of how stupid humans can, indeed, be.
Yes, that's directed towards you.
I don't know what you mean by "support Metallica", as the band are moronic dribble for angry teenagers and dirty rednecks. And I wasn't implying that such traps actually existed, justifying my use of the phrase, "if we were to" and not "this is a trap for".
Please, stop replying to me--at this point, your image to me, upon reading your posts, is something of a cross between an inbred midget, and a retarded, yet fully computer-literate, chicken-bird fatass. Please, please, stop replying, you are embarrassing yourself before the forum.
That was harsh even by my standards.
I used to love Metallica, but their songs kinda bore me now.
They aren't the best band of all time, but they are a very good band.
They aren't left wing at all either, so they lose out there.

Thank-you Ian, at least someone else "used to love" Metallica. Personally I found "Malones" red-neck comment rascist.

Metallica's down fall is a guy named Bob Rock. Once he got involved with them they went down hill big time. For all you youngins...this started with that crap that is referred to as the Black Album.
Also, Lars isnt a bad drummer at all but he has much difficulty playing any of the double bass parts live.
RIP CLIFF
don't leave us all hanging with this bob rock dude
Kill 'em All was alright (notably seek and destroy is brilliant), Ride the Lightning is one of the best albums ever, Master of Puppets is good, but not half as good as Ride the Lightning.
...and justice for all is alright, but after that everything went downhill, though tracks like enter sandman and nothing else matters are brilliant.
I think that St. Anger is a lot better than Load, reLoad, Garage inc, etc, but its hardly a return to their thrash-god days.

Bob Rock (horrendous producer) ruined Metallica. Anyway, I agree that Ride the Lightning is an incredible album. I also enjoyed And Justice for All, alot. Kill em' All and Master are also 2 great albums.
For all those old and new metal heads...check out Mechanics on Megadeth's Killing is my Business and Business is Good. Its the same song as the Four Horseman on Kill 'em All....just different lyrics. I wonder if Dave Mustaine would have cut his hair....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Fair enough, everyone is entitled to the own opinion on musical taste. So long as you know what you like who cares what others like. It's not going to have an impact on what you listen to. :D

Metallica 1981-
James Alan Hetfield vocals, guitar 1981-
Ron McGovney bass 1981-1983
Dave Mustaine guitar 1981-1983
Lars Ulrich drums 1981-
Kirk Hammett guitar 1983-
Clifford Lee Burton bass 1983-1986
Jason Newsted bass 1986-2000
Robert Trujillo bass 2003-
FACTS
In 1999 they sued Victoria's Secret for selling lipstick called "Metallica." It was settled out of court.
Ulrich's father, Torben, was a professional tennis player.
Burton was killed in 1986 when their tour bus skidded off an icy road in Sweden. His funeral was held on October 7, 1986 at Chapel Of The Valley in his hometown of Castro Valley, California. He was cremated, and his ashes were spread at a place where he spent a lot of time - the Maxwell Ranch.
Hetfield entered an Arizona rehab center in 2001 to treat his drug and alcohol addictions.
They have won 7 Grammys.
Newsted left the band because of "Private and personal reasons, and the physical damage I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love." He joined the group Echobrain in 2001.
Lars and Dave Mustaine remain very good friends. Mustaine teaches guitar and manages a band in Arizona.
Ulrich is from Denmark, his family moved to America when he was in his teens. His first concert was seeing Deep Purple when he was 10 and he still regards them as his favorite band.
Hetfield was raised a Christian Scientist. It has been said that Hetfield felt repressed by this strict upbringing. This has a lot to do with the religious overtones in many of Metallica songs.
In 2004 Metallica released the documentary Some Kind Of Monster. It documented the recording of their album St. Anger, and shows how personal differences can hinder the recording process. It was made by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky.
On August 8, 1992 at a concert in Montreal while touring with Guns 'N' Roses, James Hetfield was burned by the pyrotechnics which burned his entire left side of his body. Metallica couldn't continue the show and left the show for Guns 'N' Roses. Axl Rose cut their set short after about 15 minutes, claiming throat problems. This led to mayhem at Olympic Stadium.

I feel Metallica was a really good band until the release of the album Load. After that, they seriously went downhill from there. They're in it for the money now and not the music. Back when they still had Cliff they kicked way more ass.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Savag...tator%29#Trivia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Savage_%28commentator%29#Trivia)
The signature introduction to the Savage Nation is an announcer saying "Warning: The Savage Nation contains adult language, adult content, psychological nudity. Listener discretion is advised." The beginning of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" will come next, followed by Mötley Crüe's "Looks that Kill", and Metallica's "The Shortest Straw" will finish off the introduction.
For bumper music, Savage has used "Eye of the Beholder," "Frayed Ends of Sanity," "Holier Than Thou," and "The Shortest Straw" by Metallica; and "Du Hast" and "Tier" by Rammstein. Although most modern music bands are known to be politically liberal, Metallica seems to have some conservative leanings - their lead guitarist Kirk Hammett has called into Savage's show to say "We support what you're doing," and James Hetfield, Metallica's lead singer, reportedly despises liberals.
For those of you unfamilar with Savage, this is a guy who makes Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly look like Ghandi and Che. While a lot of right-wing talking heads like to at least pretend to be "tolerant", he's an open bigot.

"Oh, you're one of the sodomites. You should only get AIDS and die, you pig. How's that? Why don't you see if you can sue me, you pig. You got nothing better than to put me down, you piece of garbage. You have got nothing to do today, go eat a sausage and choke on it."
On women: "I'm beginning to think that women should be denied the vote. Their hormones rage; they are too emotional." (as quoted in San Jose Mercury News, Nov. 6, 1998)
On whites no longer being the majority in California: "Now the liberals are celebrating, of course. They will soon find out they will be shoved aside so that the power can be taken by the Asians and the Hispanics."
On how this happened: "With the population that has emerged, since they [Hispanics] breed like rabbits, in many cases the whites will become a minority in their own nation.... the white people don't breed as often for whatever reason. I guess many homosexuals are involved. That is also part of the grand plan, to push homosexuality to cut down on the white race."
On who's taking over: "The nation is being taken over by the freaks, the cripples, the perverts, and the mental defectives."
On gay parenting: "Fat lesbians are anti-family." (S.F. Examiner, Jan. 8, 1996)
On gays: "Gays bore the hell out of me. They're the least important members of our society."
On the gay-rights movement: "I'm not going to roll over to the pink swastika; I will not bow down to the pink swastika."

I can't stand the vocalist's voice. Some of the songs seems too straightforward (yet some other songs are pretty well constructed,) some are too repetitive. On many songs it is focused too heavily on the guitars, and especially the bass is too minimalized and mute. The parts when they play odd rythms are interesting (like in One I believe.)
Their drummer (probably more than one, but blah) is technically skilled. I really dislike the sounds of his drums though, and in my opinion I'd like to hear more use of the toms.
I like ReLoad and Master of Puppets the most. But overall I consider Metallica "decent".

They generally bore me (with a couple of good songs). There are better metal bands out there, from that era. Candlemass shit on them.
However, my main problem is how they've turned into money sucking materialist...*cough* I'll stop.

I have been a Metallica fan for years. I owned a copy of Master of Puppets not that long after it came out. They were my number one band and their records were second to none. Then enter sandman came along and I lost interest. To me there are 2 metallica's pre-sandman and post-sandman. Also the napster carry-on was unforgivable. I still listen to them all the time but I would not put another penny in their pockets.

I don't mind metalica but there stuff is getting a bit boring and there been going ages they do sort of need to stop. I think continuing with there career would be a bad idea because i think they lost alot of there fans to newer shiter bands such as fall out boy and panic.

If that is test one, here is test 2: Watching Disney films and absorbing their right-wig bollocks. I bloody hate most mainstream American films. So bloody sacharine with their wussy endings and the American dream. Can anyone recommend some decent films cos I'm doing Media at college (I know it's a doss, but it's easy and quite entertaining). I'll watch owt wi Gael Bernal cos he's well fit!
The third test is being entertained by these.
