I live in Florda, we have to deal with hurricanes a lot. Where I live they have yet to hit except for little storms, but even those were terrible. I can't even begin to imagine the damage that has been done to Cuba recently. Cienfuegos, a fairly large city in central Cuba was hit by hurricane Dennis recently and the hurricane reportedly took down 85% of the phone lines there. Cuba is already in a poor financial situation and a tragedy like this doesn't help. So, what I thought is that us leftists should help them out by sending financial aid to Cuba. When the tsunamis hit, people said they cared, people say they care about the aids epidemic in africa and though both are worse than the hurricane nobody even pretends like they care about Cuba.
I just though this might be a good idea, if you do decide to do it, tell me, I'll give you the address of a Cuban Ambassador, also, send a letter and tell them you're a member of revleft so that if enough of us know it they might notice that we care.

hurricane dennis is rather far from me, but i went out to the tampa bay beach, and the waves were ENORMOUS! dead sea creatures all over the place. a few downed trees. that's all for me, but i got the outer-rim of the thurricane. cuba had the eye!if i had some money, i'd donate; but i'll do what i can to help.
you made a good point about no one even pretending to care about cuba! on the weather reports, when talking about the hurricane going over cuba, they sounded as though no one were even living there! i guess sympathy for cuba isn't a market with tapping!

Really ,85 % of the power-lines were destroyed ?
What I heard is that Castro turned off 85% of the power. So if the lines were down and damaged no one would get electricuted.
I've heard that Cuba is organized when it comes to storms, they pack up crops and livestock to higher ground, bring in all fishing boats, and Castro encourages everyone to evacuate to higher ground.Unlike Florida where Jeb Bush encourages everyone to stay in doors.
I'd be willing to chip in aid too,I don't know how much help it would do.So whats the Ambassadors address ?
You don't hear to much about Cuba on the news in Fla.,the last story I heard about them on the TV is when Castro fell and the speaker of the house just laughed.

The news dident talk about the hurrican damage in cuba is becuse sadly most the people who where watching the news wouldent care. The people only care about what is going to happen in this county, witch is totally sicking. but ya i think a relief fund would be a great idea. I wouldent mind getting the address for a cuban ambassador.

today, on NPR news, i heard that the movement inside amerika to lift the embargo on cuba has flared because of dennis, and the embargo may soon come to an end!

I was actually listening to that, I believe that the great people at NPR's views are warped, they hang out with crowds that are left or at least liberal so they probably didn't want the embargo in the first place. I wish that the embargo would end, but I don't think it will until Castro dies (even though he never dies). Also, you should listen to 88.5 WMNF since you live in the Tampa Bay area, they are community radio, they have the same news show as NPR and much better music, plus it is supporting a local station instead of the national one, both are good though.
P.S. I think you heard that in Nate's car. And, those peanuts were really salty.
I'd like to send some money
