Would catching Bin B Bad

Would catching Bin laden be a good thing or a bad thing?

If the US blew them up yes there would be bloody reprisals. But can you imagine what these organizations would do if the US caught him and held him captive, demanding his release. Wow it boggles the mind, there's no way the CIA will let him live longer than the first press release I bet.

Catching OBL would be a bad thing, because it would give a boost to US imperialism; it would increase the president’s approval ratings as well as support for imperialist wars (Iraq, Afghanistan etc).

Besides, it wouldn’t solve anything; Bin Laden’s followers will continue the fight anyway.

If they caught him, I doubt that they would just kill him, they would probably torture, drug and humiliate him in public, then stage a big show trial and when he isn't of any use anymore get rid of him.

Or maybe they will just put him on the payroll of the republican party, let him convert to born-again christianity (will be broadcast live on CNN) and then give him a position in the department of homeland security (Behold! The almighty power of jesus christ has turned the right hand of the devil into a true servant of god!) ;)


Seriously, this would be too good an oppurtunity to not turn his persona into political capital. His trial (and execution?) will surly be used to incite strong emotions against the "enemies of freedom", I can't see anything good coming from that. And more importantly, I can't see how this would be good for our side in any way.

True. I read somewhere that he travels with bodyguards with orders to shoot him if caught or cornered to prevent his being caught alive and transform him into a martyr in the eyes of religious-fundamentalists everywhere.
