bike riding as revolutionary.
7/5/2005
When you look out your window to see a new day all you see is pollution blocking out the new day and the sun, a commodity for life. the culprit of the eniviromental genocide? something people use everyday, cars. Cars cause everything from pollution to wars. for all of you disputing the fact that cars spark wars, let me ask you, why is america in iraq? OIL! So what do i propose.. i propose we do away with the useless cars and use bicycles and public transportation. Bikes, while slower, are more enviromentally freindly and promote excersize, for an already unhealty population (world population). Cars are needless capitalist product which require tune-ups regularly, and break down easily. bikes while also being a capitalist product, dont require anyone else but yourself to service them after you buy them (or steal them, what ever you fancy).
but why would you want to ride your bike everywhere? well for one, if you are an anti-capitalist a bike is a way to stop using a non renewable resource, and not have to pay large government supporters large amounts of money very year. also, for all of you unhealthy revolutionaries out there biking can get you back into shape and when you ride far distances (my longest ride was 59 miles in 4 hours) your body yearns for water, which is a healthy fluid for your body.
&nsbp;&nsbp;so, in closing, biking is a much better alternative to cars enviromental reasons and politcal reasons. hopefully you re-look how the world is re shaping it self because of the polution and decide to do something about it.

I ride my bike everynow and then even though I live miles from my destinations. It is more because I enjoy it then anything else, however polution and gas does play into it. However I do not think it would be considered revolutionary. In Europe, I belive, biking is much more common then in the states. When oil becomes more exspensive I think that alternative will be used more and more.
and ;  was very convincing :P

I ride my bike mainly for exercise. The fact is, here in the Midwest, destinations are just too far to constantly ride your bike everywhere. As I live in a small village outside of Madison, biking just isn't an effective mode of transportation. However, out east or in Europe, I could definately see why people would ride their bikes for transportation.

I like to ride a bike, or skateboard around, becuase everynow and then you get the real smell of nature and its wonderful, but then its back to the car smoke, and pollution, I love skateboarding or biking at night, it all smells so fresh becuase there are no cars, and yes I live in a once industrial city, and it stinks in alot of places, and what not

it would be much better if it were like that all the time.

you guys should look into "critical mass" its a great time. Basically a large group of people get together once a month and they all ride their bikes around town. The last one I went to in my city had like 50 people all riding together, like an impromptu parade. We blocked traffic, waved to padestrians, ran red lights, pissed off rich assholes in their beamers, plus you get to meet people, get exercise, and have fun.

we have an awsome critical mass in chicago
Cars are needless capitalist product which require tune-ups regularly, and break down easily.
Cars built with deliberate obsolencance. Companies make cars so that they break down after a while, and as most people don't know their dipstick from their exhaust they replace their cars.
Cars are not needless - they are a brilliant invention that enables people to travel long distances easily.
Under socialism / whatever left wing system you want, cars can be built to be extremely reliable and efficient (70+mpg), and this could happen straight away.
Of course we would research a replacement for the internal combustion engine straight away, so cars will remain with us so long as nothing succeeds them.
I personally ride my bike quite a lot, but for distaces over about 7 miles, I wouldn't really bother (unless its for fun).

Bikes....first of all in a city are not slower...I've lived in a city for the past four years and can beat a car most anywhere about 90% of the time...also with more bikes we would diminish what we now call suburbia...since these are mainly an extension of the city and are made usable only by the car they spread further...but with use of a bike they would be forced to become more independent and would cease to be the parasite they are...with the use of more cars, more of these leaches would grow and peoples lives will become spread over greater land...though some may argue this good, it is simply what one gets used too...and while this so called goodness of transportation and distance comes about the earth is being destroyed...so I guess it all depends on what you consider good....more bikes a person would get used to using his own energy to fuel his life and would stop allowing himeself to become merely a carry on....
bikes/ thoough nothing new...would be a means to great possiblities...but only if we did not bread a country of lazy individuals, choosing not out of fear of a definite life change....I need my car...yet now I ask you to define need...cause people are dying!!!

I always like how people yell out abusive things to me while on my bike. My personal fave is the dumb: Its a PUSH bike, your supposed to PUSH it.
Actually its a mountain bike. So how about those fuel prices? hehehe
Yes it may not be revolutionry, but im not particularly interested in a car as long as we have the combustion engine

Bike riding is really only good for the city if your trying to get place to place.
