I heard a rumour that those white MakePovertyHistory bands are made in Chinese sweatshops. Is it true? I don't like the anti-racism ones as they are made by Nike who emply sweatshop labour big time.

Fuck those left-liberal sell-outs.

Are there any 'make capitalism history' bands?

If not, I'll make some myself (well, will probably make them anyway). :)

Whats the deal with these bands anyway? Its just another gimmick of our generation. like the 'frog tunes' or the yo yo, these bands will die out within the year.

Ho! I would've respected them...if they suddently transformed into a walking world-revolting movement that urged listeners to their concerts everywhere to overthrow the world, à la Leon Trotsky's "permanent revolution"! On a world-wide tour -- and free guns passed around at every show :P

I'm going for my 'Make Poverty Big Mac' with 'Spicy African fries' washing it down with a 'diet End Child slavery/rape/not having a PS2 cherry cola' then i can feel better cuase i have a white band on my wrist THAT MAKES ALL THE FUCKING DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.... WOOO BIG BROTHER IS ON!

If only we had these bands in 1939 with a 'MakeGenocideHistory' band...
or even 'make Stalinism and anti trotsky hit men with ice picks history' band!!!
What about 'Make Gimmicky wrist bands that are moraly voide history' wrist band... ho ho that would teach em!

The production of bands changed when the sweqatshop allegations emerged, although this is no excuse. The only reason I have one is because it is the one I was given at the gates of Glastonbury.

Whilst these bands miss the point they still have a use. They have shown a willingness at least for people to take interest in an issue. They may be misguided but it is better than apathy. Going out openly denouncing "make poverty history" in the nmame of socialism and glory would give a great image wouldn't it? I have my opinions, but in cases like this am careful how I express them.

With that argument i would have to agree. simple. But lets be honest how many people realy know/care about the plight of africa/racism/sexism/what ever these bands are for.. I agree its good if some good comes as a consequence of this new fad. Im not joking i was at a party two weeks ago when a guy talking about 'Pakie asslyum seekers' informed me the black and white bands he was wearing are for Anti Racism/Discrimination...

This is reactionism at its best..

i read on znet that they were made in sweatshops. someone else said this i think but its so naive, they arent going to end poverty. if they want to end poverty they should be spreading anti-capitalist ideas, and more of a direct action message, not a bunch of concerts (NONE OF WHICH ARE IN AFRICA!!!)

does anyone have any links to proof of nike sweatshop labor. i read an article a while back praising a nike factory in ho chi minh city (ironic eh?) paying their workers well yadda yadda. but then again, just because they are getting more than others doesnt mean they arent still dirty poor.

We were shown a video in school of the poor conditions in Indonesian sweatshops. Nike and Gap were to blame.
