The PATRIOT act is just an insight of what your government think of the people. They mistrust you, they expect there to be trouble as if they have done something wrong.
The US. government is corrupt and is fighting a war against the people. The cappie pigs are trying to grip onto their power and will eventually lose it my comrades.

Over here in Britain, the government wants to introduce 'ID cards'.
If this passes, those people who don't have ID cards, whether they forgot their cards at home or they refuse to apply for ine for political reasons, could be refused things like healthcare, even in medical emergencies.
This is a violation of one of the most important and basic of human rights, the right to life and care.
Not only could the government and the secret police see our information, but the government has also said that they would pass on our information to anyone, such as companies and banks and other institutions.
So the government has now made it it's responsiblitiy to chase up people who owe a bit of money on their credit cards or to their bank. While people sleep rough on our streets, the government won't lift a fucking finger but would get to work the minute some company, which has billions as it is, want's to chase up some poor person who owes a few hundred quid on their card.
And these pricks in government still call their fucking shit excuse for a party, the 'labour' party!
Sadly, their is no major movement in Britain to stop this and the MPs, being the corrupt fucks and sell outs that they are, are not going to put up any real opposition to this.
Is there any movements in the US opposing the 'Patriot Act'?
I suppose I can imaging that the 'Democrats' are just as useless in offering any real resistance to this move and just pay lip service to a few sell out spineless liberals.

Same thing in the States. It basically works the same way as it sounds. You forget it; you can be refused a boat load of services. Don’t have it, you can’t get a mortgage. Its basically the SS packaged under the Orwellian doublethink of “homeland security”.
You’re a member of a church we don’t like – arrest you and you disappear
Your child committed a petty crime like stealing a stick of gum – arrest you.
You’re the wrong skin color – arrest you.
You’re a teen past day time and night time curfew – arrest you
You read the wrong kind of books and participate in a political rally – arrest you
You’re outside Bush’s free speech zone – arrest you.
You “look” like a person who shouldn’t live in this area – arrest you
You a teenager – arrest you.
Disrupt class – arrest you
Hanging out at the corner – arrest you
Is there any movements in the US opposing the 'Patriot Act'?
No, no real opposition. The dem’s like you said are spineless. The pay lip service that it violates the 5th and 14th and 1st amendment, but they don’t actually do anything. A couple of the Patriot act’s clauses are going to expire soon, but it will get voted on and pass. Why because nobody in Washington represents the people. The only group that really does anything is the ACLU – but the government tries to discredit them and the media being the political cheerleaders of the government simply echo the official view. Its not like they would actually talk about it.
Lets see we have a bunch of evangelical right church fucks running Washington, and trying to make everyone into some fucking church member. Recently the Supreme Court ruled that Texas can have the 10 Commandments on government property because “with other secular monuments” it shows and represents “a historical” entity. Bullshit. The 10 Commandments are strictly of religious origins and if it has any historical value it is simply that of the church.
You know Jefferson, Madison, Washington all wanted a “wall” of separation between church and state. Well they are turning in their graves. A wall – implying no church, or religious relics, iconic symbols, religious statements, or anything that remotely signifies God is within the hemisphere of the state. However, this doesn’t seem to be happening. We have religious icons on government property, we have religious slogans on our money, we have religious politicians influencing social policy on Christian principles. Pretty soon, it wouldn’t surprise me if we had an official recognized and indorsed State church.

The repeal of the 22nd ammendmentr in the states is another major blow to freedom. With cash (which he has a lot of) Bush can stay in power for longer.

The patriot act is another step towards a police state. Suprisingly, much protest did not arise from it becasue of the "fear of terrorism" and gun ho patriots.

The thing is, we cant. They have fed the poeple so much bullshit through the media that many feel it in their best interest to have the act or even, life without the act would be terrible.
The best thing we can do is spread the word to everyone we can. Get them out of the ignorance that their government has betrayed them with.

If we could connect in the conscience of the people the PATRIOT Act, and the recent Supreme Court ruling that businesses can buy up citizen's property for much lower than their worth to build their malls and what not, maybe we could get some people outraged.
Maybe.

i find it sad that the patriot act was passed with such a large majority, the numbers exactly i do not remember, but out of all the senators and congressman, not one, not one actually read through the patriot act to see what it contains. they were all fooled by the name, they thought that the patriot act would be patriotic, hence the name patriot act, insteat the patriot act is the opposite, it is anything but patriotic, it destroys the rights and liberties of the people, and let me just say this, it blows. to know that the government can look at my personal files, my emails, my instant messages, tape my phone calls, and investigate which books i have checked out, it is disturbing and disgusting and i am apphauled that not one congress person had the guts to read and stand up against the unpatriotic act

You cannot beat the patriot act while using the resources it taps.
As soon as you figure out how, if the powers that be deem it necessary, you shall be its next victim.

you know... before this thread was started, the senate had repealed the part of the PATRIOT act that allowed them to check your library records... i guess the relation to 1984 thought crime was too much for the senate to agree.
there is one congressman who i beleve represents the people! he's the one who came forth that the congress was not allowed to read the PATRIOT act before passing it. the same happened with the PATRIOT act v2.0. the president has had dictatorial power since FDR (70 years ago) and one of the abilities with dictatorial power is getting bills automatically-approved by congress.
before we can repeal all of the PATRIOT acts, we need to repeal the president's dictatorial power!
