His searing portrayal of the industry is disturbingly similar to Upton Sinclair's The Jungle, written in 1906: nightmare working conditions, union busting, and unsanitary practices that introduce E. coli and other pathogens into restaurants, public schools, and homes. Almost as disturbing is his description of how the industry "both feeds and feeds off the young," insinuating itself into all aspects of children's lives, even the pages of their school books, while leaving them prone to obesity and disease. Frequently using McDonald's as a template, Schlosser, an Atlantic Monthly correspondent, explains how the development of fast-food restaurants has led to the standardization of American culture, widespread obesity, urban sprawl and more. In a perky, reportorial voice, Adamson tells of the history, economics, day-to-day dealings and broad and often negative cultural implications of franchised burger joints and pizza factories, delivering impressive snippets of information (e.g., two-thirds of America's fast-food restaurant employees are teenagers; Willard Scott posed as the first Ronald McDonald until higher-ups decided Scott was too round to represent a healthy restaurant like McDonald's). According to Schlosser, most visits to fast-food restaurants are the culinary equivalent of "impulse buys," i.e., someone is driving by and pulls over for a Big Mac. That was a pretty damn good book for anybody, not just people who work at McDonald's. It's a great, but that's old news.

When eating fast-food for a month straight,his policy on order was this.
He would try everything on the Mc Donalds menu atleast once
He would go super-sized if he was asked to.

Check this out,the only places he was asked about going super-sized was in Texas,this justifies the statement that "Everything is bigger in Texas".

Great movie,although I don't remember him going to the manufacturing plants and farms where the beef and potatoes are made.

favourite scene: When he orders a super-sized Double Quarter-Pounder meal,which takes when eating in his car,takes him more tham an hour to eat,then,he ends up vomiting his meal out the window of his car into the parking-lot.

I forget how much body weight he gained,anyone remember ?

The movie was called Super Size Me. This book was by someone else entirely---totally different but pretty much on the same topic.

I actually have this book! It's currently sitting on my shelf collecting dust though. I got bored with it after a bit and switched to a different book. I should finish it sometime soon.

You should skip to the part where he talks about how they treat the meat workers and stuff. Just skip like the whole beginning and read the middle to the end. It's not boring at all.

Super Size Me was an impressive documentary, and now I am concidering picking up this book.

that film was sick...the scene where he ate the double-quarter pounder was disgusting.it made his vomit luminous orange....not only does it taste bad but i turns your insides a weird colour.nice.....
