May I suggest that the Discovery channel's "demographic" is highly skewed in favor of that part of the middle class who would take such a poll seriously?

It's like asking the readers of Rolling Stone who were the greatest musicians in history...some very weird answers are going to emerge.

Oprah is ahead of a U.S president? Complete imbeciles. I guess this is what happens in an age where every media outlet, with the exception of PBS and C-Span, give 24 hour coverage to Michael Jackson.

Slightly off topic, but Redstar, Rolling Stone did actually compile a list of the 100 best guitarists ever:

1 Jimi Hendrix
2 Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band
3 B.B. King
4 Eric Clapton
5 Robert Johnson
6 Chuck Berry
7 Stevie Ray Vaughan

10 Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones
11Kirk Hammett of Metallica
12 Kurt Cobain of Nirvana
13 Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead
14 Jeff Beck
15 Carlos Santana
16 Johnny Ramone of the Ramones
17 Jack White of the White Stripes
18 John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers

95 Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine
96 Angus Young of AC/DC
97 Robert Randolph
98 Leigh Stephens of Blue Cheer
99 Greg Ginn of Black Flag
100 Kim Thayil of Soundgarden

Since mot people here probably aren't as interested in music as I am, I'll keep it short: Jack White is the 11th best guitarist ever, while Eddie van Halen is number 70?!?

Back on the topic, the Discovery list makes just as little sense. I can understand the historical presidents, but, c'mon, Reagan, Bush?

And Oprah? I know, she's got a (completely ridiculous) TV show, but... the 9th most important american ever? If that is the case, I feel Pee Wee Herman should be at least number 8.

Then again, as Redstar said, this poll were favoring the middle and upper classes, since the poor people of the USA probably won't spend time and money on such useless votes.

I would have thought JFK would have been in the top ten, considering his "sainthood" after his assasination.
