rockfan has recently competed with his band Harvest, at the Smokefree Rockquest in Rotorua, New Zealand. He is the drummer of their band. The group got a well deserved 3rd placing out of 16 competing bands. Angus a.k.a rock fan said that apon hearing the news they all jumped onto the stage and got into a huddle. Congrats to them all.

The boys in Harvest hope that soon their main claim to fame won't be just as "that band with two bass players".

The five-piece, made up of students from John Paul College and Rotorua Boys' High School, are one of 16 groups competing for glory at the Rotorua finals of the Smokefree Rockquest tomorrow night.

The group hope their mix of metal and rap, along with the dynamic vocals of frontman Carlo Vianello, will be the key to winning this year's competition.

Group spokesman Paddy Mullen said the mixture of musical styles and the diverse backgrounds and ethnicities of the group gave them a unique edge

"It makes it a bit hard in that we can't practise in school time."

"We are also bit unusual in that we have two bassists. We have had people come up to us and say 'Hey, aren't you that band with two bassists?'

"Vocally, we sound very much like [seminal rap/rock band] Rage Against the Machine, but we all bring different tastes to it."

The Smokefree Rockquest, the biggest and most influential nationwide youth event held in New Zealand, has become a New Zealand institution.

Bands and artists including The Datsuns, Anika Moa, Steriogram, Tadpole, The Feelers, The Black Seeds, Nesian Mystic, Bic Runga, Fur Patrol, Betchadupa, King Kapisi, Zed and The Have have all taken part in the event during its 17-year history.

The Rotorua finals are on tomorrow night at the Rotorua Convention Centre.

Included in the line-up are last year's winners, Rage from Ruatahuna.

Two finalists will be chosen from tomorrow night's competition to go up against 42 other regional finalists in a selection process, which will cut the bands down to six. Those bands will then play off for top honours at the national finals at the Wellington Town Hall on September 3.
