I've seen a movie of this. It was salvaged from a bin that the communist party of new zealand had chucked movies into.

Ignorant bastards.

BTW, soviet movies are cool.

It's Собачье сердце :)

And yes, I've seen the movie. About 15 times I guess :D . It's one of the best movies I've seen ever. Love the book and love the movie.

And I think you should read at least some of these wonderful books. ;)

That's not really a Soviet book... Wasn't he living in Newcastle when he wrote it?

I guess one could count it, if they wanted too. :P

Anyways...

My favourite Soviet novel of all time is Nisso by Pavel Luknitsky.

After that, probably Maxim Gorky's trilogy My Childhood / My Apprenticeship / My Universities. Mother is a great novel as well.

I also love Mikhail Sholokov's Virgin Soil Upturned and Chingis Aitmatov's Tales of the Mountains and the Steppes, which contains three of his short novels: Jamila, Duishen and Farewell, Gyulsary!.

Those are definately ones I like best. :)
