What are the Republicans reasons for supporting the war? Are they still searching for some dude in a cave? What happened to him? I get the feeling they would support any war anywhere for any reason.
Didn't they learn ANYTHING from Vietnam? The terror they inflict on the world is just unacceptable!

What is the point of giving a reason? You and the hundreds of other spammers will fill the thread with spam and make any serious discussion on the issue impossible. So why even make this thread?

I made this thread because I seriously don't know what the reason is.

;) I knew that much. But what I was really wondering was what Bush says it is for. What do the Republicans think they are supporting? Or maybe they choose not to care.

;) Depends WHEN you ask them!

At first, it was because of Sept. 11, 2001; then it was because of Weapons of Mass Destruction; then it was regime change, now it is to spread the U$ version of "Democracy"

I'm not supporting the Iraq war, but from what I hear:

a. Supporting freedom and the preservation of choosing your own destiny fro the Iraqi people

b. Military power in the middle east

c. "Defend from Tyranny"

d. Oil is always good

Yes, oil is always good. Who gives a fuck about these people we've never met?

Kill as many as them as you can, so they can't take revenge, and steal the oil.

The reason tends to change every so often. At first it was WMDs, then it was to install a democracy, now it seems that Iraq is the frontline in the war on terror.

it's just imperialism. we need to recognize that that is what the government that has run our country has always been about and we the people are a distraction. we have been distracting enough to gain a few rights here and there, but now are so distracted ourselves that we cannot be bothered with paying attention to the havoc being wreaked in the name of the country on our passports. it's never been my country, no matter what the flag-waving rednecks believe, cuz they saw it on fox news channel.
dang. i'm missing hardball with chris matthews. he sure is smart. wonder what he'll tell me to believe today.
gotta run.

I dont know.

but i do know that it isnt for some interest of israels. if israel wanted they could kick the shit out of iraq and iran with special forces and well coordinated strikes.

Actually Israel aided Iran during the later part of the Iran-Iraq war. Israel was more worried by Iraq because it was 1) Arab and 2) closer. That's probably still true. And certainly the Israeli government favored the U.S. invading Iraq, lobbied for it, etc.

That wasn't the main reason for the war, of course.

Why don't you explain why you support the war (if you do)? And (be honest now) is that the same reason(s) you gave before the invasion?

You do know that during the war, if Iran won, they were planning on invading Israel from a base in Iraq. The Israeli government didn't like any government, they still support the Kurdish peshmerga forces first against Iraq, now Iran, much to the distain of Turkey.

SO why did they invade Iraq and not Iran? huh.gif

It was more profitable and easier to justify.

The democrats support this war too, BTW. They voted in favor of it and nominated a Presidential canidate who supported it. Their criticism of the Republicans is that they're bad at fighting the war and the US would be doing better in the war if the democrats were in charge (because the democrats would send more troops, have better strategies, wouldn't be as soft on "terrorists," etc.).

You can read a recent speech Bush gave defending the war at http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/20...20050628-7.html (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/06/20050628-7.html)

Exactly. Both of the big bourgeois parties defended the war and supported this war. No one candidate with any amount of a strong following and a chance at the white house put their disgust for the war public.
