Its bad, and if you are living in the United States you are living in Neo-McCarthyist state. Except instead of attacking Communist, its "terrorist" or somebody who isn't sporting an agression position of oppressing "un-Americans" - such as Arabs, anybody with a funny arab name, leftist, or in general anybody who doesn't fall in line with King Bush.

I thought this where common knowledge among leftists know. Oh well. It's not like we have a choiche but to know it either, unless you haven't totally affiliated with "us" yet...even if we're no "us", and ACTUALLY no group, but everyman guy in the street.

It was an "ideology" of anti-Communism "funded" in USA under the years of the Cold-War, mainly the 50-70's, and uh, he who was behind it was Joe McCarthy, a forefronting Senator and "pioneer" who "sparked" the "wave" of anti-Sovietism, but that was just a disguise: Of which took a broader angle, and also slugged of Communism as a whole ideology bein' in the fuckin' way of "freedom" and made it look evil, discredited as degenerate despotism, and at the same time, all left-wingers where hard-pressed on, especially the Socialist Worker's Party, SWP. It generally considered to be a VERY bad thing to look back on by "us" - and quite a remark of intolerance!

McCarthyism is a means of slander by accusing political opponents of being "communists". Of course, he had to make communism evil (which wasn't hard given the conditions of the USSR) or else calling somebody a communist wouldn't be effective as mud-slinging. Then, the general US population had to be brainwashed into anti-communism (which was done easily during the cold war era). McCarthy basically played off of the public's fear of "evil" communism in order to gain political power and to discredit his opponents.

He is now a generally despised political figure except to the most insane right-wingers.

So it is basically the dehumanization of communism. Making communism look evil and inhumane and basically against everything that is stands for.

Sort of like how the US us dehumanizing Islamic-fundamentalists. The cold war still exists it's just that terrorism has replaced communism. The script is the same the names have been changed.
