Thirty years ago,a group of young American radicals announced their intention to overthrow the U.S. government.

The Weather Underground Organization, was a US-based, revolutionary organization of communist men and women. In October 1969, the Weathermen organized their first event, when they blew up a statue dedicated to police casualties in the 1886. In 1970, following the police raid that resulted in the death of Black Panther Fred Hampton, the group issued a declaration of war against the United States government, changing its name to the "weather underground organization".

"I don't regret setting bombs against non-human targets. I believe we didn't do enough." Bill Ayers

"Hello, I'm going to read a declaration of a state of war...within the next 14 days we will attack a symbol or institution of American injustice." ~ Bernardine Dohrn

"We didn't set out to make a movie, we set out to make a revolution. Some of us are still trying to make a revolution. The horrors that the Weather Underground movie shows, that impelled us to go underground, brutal war against other countries, and ruthless repression at home, are worse today than they were then." Naomi Jaffe

Watching this movie made me realize how relevant the issues then (War against other nations for profit) are today. I found a copy of this dvd at the local library.

Although this topic has been dealt with already by myself as well as other members I'm glad you brought it up again. You can check out Bill Ayers book, Fugitive Days, at your library.

Yeah I figured it had been a while- plus every time I see it, I get a new perspective.

I especially "respect "Bill Ayers philosophy on revolution, and the fact he is a professor. Actually 3 of the original weatherman teach higher education in the US.

I've seen the movie, it is great, I loved their group and they made some progress for a little while, but not nearly enough.

My father got that DVD a while ago and I watched it with him. It was an amazing, eye-opening film. Sadly, the same cannot be said for The Weather Underground. Their actions were justified and I personally agrre with them, but at the same time one must take into consideration the fact that they actually detracted from the peaceful anti-war protestor movement. Also, their politics were AMAZINGLY :o immature. At one point an excerpt from their manifesto reads along the lines of : 'Everywhere there are hippies smoking pot there is revolution'... I mean, COME ON! But still, brilliant film, a classic.

Heck, well, I don't know 'bout 'rat, but atleast in a way, sort of a mind, there is a "revolution" going on about doin' drugs to, but only in the symbolic-way of sense. Anyknowhows, talk about Fred Hampton, he's apparantly famous, aren't I right, "Hampton"? Heck, y'all even got a mod with'rat name on'im :P
