Tom Monaghan’s coming Catholic utopia

Ave Maria won’t be just a university, he continues. It will also be a new town, built from scratch, in which the wickedness of the world will be kept at bay. "We’ve already had about 3500 people inquire on our Web site about buying a home there — you know, they’re all Catholic," Monaghan says excitedly. "We’re going to control all the commercial real estate, so there’s not going to be any pornography sold in this town. We’re controlling the cable system. The pharmacies are not going to be able to sell condoms or dispense contraceptives." A private chapel will be located within walking distance of each home. At the stunning church in the center of town, Mass will be said hourly, seven days a week, from 6 a.m. on. "So," Monaghan concludes, with just a hint of understatement, "it’ll be a unique town." As he exits the stage, the applause is thunderous.

This is a fairly long article but well worth reading as an insight into the mind of one of our enemies.

Monaghan was, of course, the former founder and owner of the Domino's Pizza chain (really crappy pizzas, incidentally) and now perhaps chief bankroller of Catholic fundamentalism in the U.S.

Many of the Christian fascists want to "take over America". Monaghan's approach is closer to the "bunker mentality"...to create a "fortress of faith" within which "sin" is expressly prohibited by municipal ordinance.

I leave it to your imagination what the "public school" in this town will be like. :o

So people will use the foolproof 'withdrawal' technique of contraception instead?

I pity the children.

[From the article]

... the 'Ave Maria' Tom Monaghan envisions [is] a Catholic hub in which opportunities for sin will be strictly circumscribed, and from which the truths of orthodox Catholicism will emanate throughout America and the wider world...

"Opportunities for sin", in the religious sense, seems to equate to what the rest of us deem "opportunities for fun". Or, at least, some relief from monotony... The "truths" of Catholic orthadoxy are laughable, yet they will be presented as 'gospel'. Any volunteers to infiltrate the town and spread the 'good news' of 'freedom' instead? :P

Edit:
What the fuck is this?

It will be great to be one of the women who get prescribed birth control pills because of an irregular mentstration cycle or bad PMS.

"You sinning whore, get out of my pharmacy! Harlot!"

I can't wait to see results of a town without contraceptives.

Highest teenage pregnency rate in the nation.
Highest rate of teenage female suicides.
Highest rate of people infected with preventable STDs.

I surely hope they don't prescribe penacillin for people with the clap.

No doubt, but it probably won't be visible until about twenty years from now. Until them, expect to see astronomical rates of little boys acquiring a goldmine of repressed memories for their therapists to discover at around that time.

This is just disturbing. Surely this isn't true?

I bet the place will become some inbred, STD-infested, sycophantic hellhole.

They won't have therapists there, they'll have priests.

Priests?

Priests.

Perhaps they would just use natural moral law, and demand that sex only occur for the creation of a child ? that'd pretty much prevent massive rates of sex-related things, unless someone with an STD was to get into town.

It'd stop things like teen pregnancy and unwanted children, that kindof thing.

How is that, in any way, "natural"?

Hardly.

All that institutionalized abstinance does is drvce people underground and make it harder for them to get contraception. This pushes STD rates up.

It'd stop things like teen pregnancy and unwanted children, that kindof thing.

No it woudln't.

The government telling a bunch of horney teenagers that sex goes agasint "natural moral law" isn't about to stop them from having sex.

All it will do is make it less likely that they'll tell anyone that they're doing it.

You want to stop pregnancy and unwanted children?

Two words: contraception and abortion.

Do you even know what natural moral law is ? Thomas Aquinas' theory thereof ?

If it was a totally catholic city, then surely there would be indoctrinated morals ? It wouldnt just be new york with the pope as mayor, From what this thread and the 'net says, it'd be a fully catholic society, so the indoctrination of natural moral law to prevent that kind of stuff could well work.

Religious indoctrination over a few generations would surely stamp out problems caused by modern morality ?

There would, but such things tend not to work when we are dealing with something as basic as sex.

You know what works better? Contraception.

Scaring kids to death might be good for a laugh or two, but keeping them ignorant about sex only increases their risk of contraction when they inevitably "slip".

Education and information is always the way to go.

Religious indoctrination over a few generations would surely stamp out problems caused by modern morality ?

And which "problems caused by modern morality" are those?

Civil rights?
Women's rights?
Gay rights?

Yes I'm sure these "problems" would be "stamped out" quite quickly. <_<

No, dont twist what I say.

Problems such as mass-STD epidemics, 13 year old girls getting pregnant, rampant promiscuous sex.

Surely in a totally Catholic society 'gay' people wouldn't be allowed anyway ?

You knew perfectly what I meant anyway, since I was talking about sex-caused problems. If the catholics are happy to live as ignorant automatons, let them, each to his own eh ?

You can burn them when your revolution comes.

Sex is instinct. You can't stomp out instinct. People are astill going to have sex. When you don't educate them on how to properly protect themselves, these problems get worse.

TheKingOfMercy

You have absolutely no idea how powerfull indoctrination can be do you ?

Think about it, several generations of these religions nutters, and they wouldnt even think about sex. It just wouldn't be part of their way of living. I'm not saying this is a good thing by any means, I'm just saying that it is perfectly possible to psychologically controll people to the nth degree.

And if the people were willing, as they would be to live in such a society, then it'd be even easier to convince them and imprint upon them what to, and what not to do.
