Hi my name is Omri Evron and I'm new here.

I'm a 17 year old political activist from Israel. I am a highschool student and I also study history and philosophy in the Open University. I'm a member of the YCLI (Young Communist League of Israel), a youth group of Jews and Arabs in Israel that strives for peace, equallity, justice and socialism:
http://www.banki-shabiba.net/etc/FundamentalPrinciples.html

I'm also one of the ogranizers of the Shministim Letter of high-school refusniks:
www.shministim.org
We are all young Israelies racing our draft to the IDF- and we declare that we will refuse to take part in the Occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people. Because of this I will probebly be sent to jail by my own government when my drat comes (in a year). Currently there are 4 refuseniks in jail or between jail periods.

I am active a lot against the Israeli occupation of Palestine and against the right-wing government in Israel. I spend a lot of time fighting for the rights of the Palestinians, the workers and the lower classes in Israel. I also participate in New Profile (a feminist refusenik group) and Green Action (a radical enviromental gruop), as well as Israeli-Arabic and anti-racist groups, animal rights and more.

I consider myself as a communist, pacifist, vegetarian (eventually I'll be a vegan), femenist, humanist (and so on).

Well, this is what I have to say about myself. If you want to know anything just ask. :)

Hi!

Just curious, what type of organizing are you currently doing, and what ways do you and your organization feel are the best ways in dealing with the racist occupation of Palestine?

I am most active in the "Shministim Letter" group- whose main goal is to end the occupation of the Palestinian people. Our view is that the Occupation is contrary to human rights and democratic principals- therefore we will not take a part in it. This means that we will not go as soldiers to the Occupied Territories and take part in the oppression of the Palestinian people. We organize many demonstartions (I just came back from a demonstration in front of the house of Dan Haluts- the General Chief of Staff of the IDF) and other public acts of protest. I also participated in a few of the demonstrations against the wall in the West Bank with Palestinians, and other such activities. I also work a lot with the media, and I infom them every time we organise an event.

Hi dso79, are you from Israel? Where do you live and are you active in any left-Israeli groups?
I think the disengagement plan is a sham and a lie that allows Sharon to avoid peace talks, deapen the Occupation and get the "left"-wing parties and the whole world to support his government when they should be fighting against him and his policies. He hasn't changed- he is simply willing to give up 4% of the illegal settlements in order to keep the rest and prevent the creation of an independent Palestinian state. While he is talkin of removing 8000 settlers he is sending many more to illegal settlements. There are currently 5500 appartments being built just in the illegal settlement of Maale Adumim. Additionally, the Gaza strip will still be under Israeli military control and the occupation won't lessen even there- Gaza will simply turn into a ghetto (even more than it is now).
I am glad that the settleres from the Gaza strip are going to be removed- but the disengagement plan does not lessen the Occupation, does not decrease the number of settlers in Palestine, does not bring peace, and allows Sharon to do whatever he wants (like building the Apartheid Wall and stealing more Palestinian lands).
And to explain the subject of Communism and Pacifism would take a while and I don"t have a lot of time, so I appoligize and I'll try to explain later.

Hi dso79, are you from Israel? Where do you live and are you active in any left-Israeli groups?

No, I’m Dutch and I live in the Netherlands, but I studied Hebrew at university. I visited Israel for the first time last year, but I didn‘t get involved in any political activities. As a foreign activist you have to be careful; there’s always the risk of being expelled if you’re caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. If I were to become politically active in Israel, I’d probably join Gush Shalom; I really admire Uri Avnery.

Cool. I work quite a lot with Uri Avnery and Gush Shalom. It's always amazing to see Uri running from tear gas and rubber bullets in his age. You plan to come to Israel sometime soon? If you'r ever coming here again contact me or another member in the Shministim or YCLI. :)

And about Pacifism and Communism I noticed there is atleast one thread that somehow deals with this in another forum, so i'll write there.

I think its a very good idea. Its not often you see an organisation working for peace in Israel.

I don’t have any plans to go to Israel at the moment, but if I do I’ll let you know; I’d definitely like to go back there someday.
