Dont you think that there needs to be some form of government? People are not perfect and I do not think that everyone would be able to exist peacefully in a society without any laws. What happens to the murderers and rapists? Is there any theory that addresses this topic?

Of course there need to be some form of government, in modern society. However many theories suggest that once communism has progressed to the next level it will become anarchy and people will live peacefully. but as of now we need laws and law makers.

There will only be a temporary need for a proletarian state, after which this proletarian state has served its function it will dissolve. That is, there will be no state in communism because the need for a state will not exist.

Presumably, the material conditions which create crime will no longer exist and crime will be at an extreme low. Neighbourhood watches and communities could easily discover and convict criminals.

Absolutely not, it's the contracommunism. Whoever made up this nonsense of an anarchy not having laws? Communism isn't utopia...

Isn't anrchism what communism is all about? Socialism requires government, to be sure. But I don't think we need socialism. We can advance to communism directly. What are some opinions on this?

Well, to put it very simply that's one of the differences between communism and anarchism. The two overlap and are very close. Personally im Anarcho-Communist, I think whether or not we need a government is subjective. People don't like being ruled, told what to do, where to go, and almost all hierarchies collapse after a few decades. If your a communist, ultimately you must at some point be against government.

Government causes inequality, it means that some have power and others don't. I don't think its right to say ALL GOVERNMENT IS EVIL, or GOVERNMENT IS NECESSARY, ALWAYS, it depends on many thing. Try not to be dogmatic and choose one view.

Ideally, there would be no government, but in certain situations I would support some form of government on the basis that it would wither away as its supposed to in Marx's theory.

This is a good point. I suppose that is in some situations you might not need a government, in areas where there is a lot less crime and a lot less class differnce and what not. However I can think of a lot more places that do require government. I know that in the united states for example we definitly need a government.

I've tried to explain that to so many people (namely my brother who is an authoritative leftist) and they just don't seem to understand.

But more on topic, there doesn't need to be any representing body, the people can represent themselves.

Communist affirm that after the revolution their must be a transitory state which develops socialism and then begins to dissolve itself eventually creating a stateless society.
