I don't mean commercializing communism.

What I mean is, what do you think has enlightened "the masses" to communism? Mainstream things that directly and blatantly espouse communism and anti-materialism.

Stuff that may not convert people already set in their pig right-wing ways, but might help shed a little light on something that your average rich kid or Gap girl may not have even been exposed to without them really having to look for it.

Here's an example for what I mean. The movie Fight Club. The lessons it preaches are very convincing of anti-materialistic ideals. In a certain way, Office Space (a brilliant movie in my opinion) does this as well, though far more subtly and symbolically.

Also, I hear some bands that are popular disseminate these ideals as well. I haven't really listened to them much (metal's not my bag) but a lot of people I know got converted out of their ways by that Rage against the Machine band.

Anything to add?

i dont think communnism is mainstream, not at all
the day it will become mainstream we will have a communist revolution.

At the moment we have a super-strong influence of materialism and commercialism and not really a whiff of socialism.

If communism was mainstream more people wud turn up and demos especially anti-war ones.

The only people who can make communism mainstream is ourselves, coz the media isnt going to do it is it?
So propaganda leaflets are needed and so on

I'd say Communism nor Socialism, is mainstream in the U.S. However they do show up in the mainstream market. Like you said, Fight Club, RATM. It is heavy in the stream that is for sure.

I see more anti-capitalism than pro-communism or pro-socialism in media. Even Fight Club fits that, even stranger choices like Josie and Pussycats are anti-materialistic in theme and make fun of corporations.

Small steps I suppose.

I think I phrased that wrong in a major way. I'm on major MAOIs at the moment, so forgive temporary stupidity.

I don't mean what has made communism mainstream. I meant what is in mainstream or very easily accessible to those in the mainstream or pop culture that has disseminated anti-materialist or communist ideas. Fight Club and Rage are the two best examples I can think of.
