So, this film comes out on 16th June (Thursday). The comic book geeks are positively wetting themselves at the prospect. Apparently it's absolutely brilliant. To be honest, I wouldn't be suprised if it is great because Nolan is an absolutely fantastic director and Bale, while being a bit "one track", does have a certain charisma. It also has a noticeably stellar support cast including Michael Caine, Liam Neeson and Katie Holmes. Also, watch out for the excellent Cillian Murphy from 28 Days Later.

Anyway, how are we feeling about it? Going to go and see it or do you think the Batman story is reactionery piffle aimed at glorifiying vigilante violence?

Also, I'd like to keep any reviews of the movie in here please.

I'm gagging for it, it better be good to even begin to undo the damage of the previous dirge on the batman.

I hope there is some kind of significant description of why Bruce Wayne couldn't be a police officer in order to fight crime.

In one of the "origin of Batman" stories that I read, Bruce Wayne initially wanted to become a police officer, but that in a criminology class he was taking (at Gotham Univeristy?) he was given a senario to evaluate. In the senario, there was a kid who unknowingly gives a ride to a friend who just robbed a store. Bruce Wayne was questioned as to what kind of charges should be given to the driver. Bruce Wayne believed that something to the effect of "no charges" should be given to the driver...but the professor indicated that the "reality" is that the courts would EQUALLY "throw the book" at the driver. Bruce Wayne said "but that's not fair" and the professor said "it's not fair, but it's THE LAW" and from that, Bruce Wayne KNEW he had to fight for "JUSTICE" and not "THE LAW"...and thus he couldn't be a police officer.

Hell yeah I'm gonna see it!

Every lefty I know says, "but he's a bourgeois vigilante!" and all I have to say is that at least he is a badass bourgeois vigilante. He is the only superhero I really like, and plus I've been waiting for a new direction for the films ever since Schumacher (what an asshole).

I've already bought my tickets, but like always I'm expecting it not to be good. While Nolan did a great job with Memento, and while Bale did a great job in American Psycho... no Batman movie (aside from Batman Returns) has really hit close to where it needs to be. But it is based on the graphic novels... so maybe it'll be great.

I think it comes out tomorrow... If so, I guess I am taking my little brother to see it.

Let me just say that there are is a lot of praising of "benevolent" philanthropic rich people.

That and people fighting "evil," whatever that is. From what they showed evil seems to equate to poor people (living through a depression) attempting to steal to survive...

That was more at the start, and it was annoying... Later on it just became random superhero stuff, evil doctor and all!

I'm nitpicking but it actually came out the 15th. :)

Oh, well whatever. I actually went to see it. It was okay. I'm not much of a movie person... I don't really believe in buying teh_culture... But I made an exception because of boredom ;)

The new batmobile looks cool - and Christian Bale is a good actor. Anyone seen him in American Psycho?

I'm probably going to go see it. I think you all over analyse films though. Just watch them and enjoy.

Damn right. :) When I watch a film, I just want to relax and enjoy. I like to just switch off completely and not analyse anything, unless of course it's a film with a very blatant meaning.

I think it'll be good and better than Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Those just didn't compare to the first 2 films at all.

"You're a fucking ugly *****, and I want to stab you to death and play in your own blood." - Christian Bale, American Psycho

American Psycho > Any other movie made... maybe

I saw it Tuesday I think, Loved it. Easily the best Batman film. Bale has the cheek bones of some kind of athenian God. And Nolan's direction and vision were spot on to how I always envisioned the dark knight.

Nothing to complain about at all, great film, one of the best I've seen all summer.

They should have got Adam West back....he's the only true Batman.

Well now that I've seen Batman Begins, I can say that while there were definitely some scenes worth seeing in this movie, "overall" the first "Batman" movie is still the best to me.

I hate all the media hype! Star Wars sucked! Spiderman I & 2 sucked! And the new Batman & Superman movie will suck too!

I got to see this movie sunday.

Easily the best Batman movie, superhero movie, and possibly action movie I've ever seen.

There were no major plot holes, the story was pretty consistent and pretty realistic.

Bale is perfect as Batman. Being able to carry a snobby side, a deep side, and a vicious side.

Also, the fear factor that Batman uses is so well done by Nolan and gang that you actually feel like Batman is a mythic creature.

And the very last scene... well for those who have seen it, I wonder what they'll make him look like.

I still say the first two Batman movies where the best. The others were, meh.

I have to say, though, that I am skeptical of this new one, but I will wait until I see it.

As a firm lover in Tim Burton's body of work... I have to say.

You have nothing to worry about dude, Batman Begins is MUCH better. It IS Batman. And it IS kickass.

Saw it this afternoon. Not exactly a film you could use as a tribute to cinema's artistry but I agree with George Clooney when he said it was return to form.

I always wanted to be Batman.

Deh neh neh neh neh neh neh!

Great film. Some interesting opinions on crime and why it occurs, also some very good acting and a really enjoyable experience to watch. What was great was that BATMAN was the main character, not the villains.

i though it was very well done ...but still doesn’t compare to the first 2... i hated how they had Christian bale’s voice change evry time he was batman... and what’s the deal with the ninja aspect of batman they totally did it wrong, ..1)he wasn’t in Japan i mean wtf <_< 2) shouldn’t Duncard have been a little more vengeful in the death of his master? 3)when batman was first starting out they shouldn’t have had him wearing that odd costume with the ski mask.. why not a more ninja looking costume  ..i dunno my thoughts on it
