I've read that America has paid Castro millions of dollars every year since the 50's for the army bases that are located in Cuba(and also that Castro hasn't cashed any since like '59)- Does anyone have any idea how much that would add up to now? Like if Castro were to cash them all right before he died, how much it'd hurt the American bankers?

Don't know really. Do you mean the cheques for Guantanamo Bay? Maybe he is waiting to cash them just before he dies to hurt American bankers, although I don't know how much he has to cash or how much it would take to hurt the American bankers!

I don't think he is going to cash them ever. I think he takes it as a matter of pride, showing that he doesn't need the US's support, although it would be a slap in the face to the US if he did cash them all right before he died.

Some how I doubt that he isn't cashing in the checks. I mean, with that money he could buy medical supplies for his people, or help the country... so if he isn't then he is holding his country back.

In the end, the people are worth more then principles or pride.

At his place I would cash them all and burn the money on tv, to show that we don't need those ugly green papers... and hurt the bankers a bit.

And for having being in South America, I know that pride is more important for them than a whole lot of things. Remember that quote from Emiliano Zapata:

I would rather die standing than live on my knees!

I don' think this is true, it doesn't seem very likely that he would not reolize the need for all the money, although, as you say, it could be a pride thing.
