Ok, there is a thread like this on Marxism but I'm looking for books on Communism (in any form). So let me have it. Thanks

That's a tough question to answer. Non-Marxist books on communism mostly date back to the 19th century and are probably out-of-print.

Marx and Engels make many references in their works to non-Marxist communists...so you might start looking for titles there.

Sorry I can't help more.

We're reading Engels' Socialism: Utopian and Scientific in the Study Group section of this forum. It has a whole chapter devoted to pre-Marx communists (Saint Simon, Robert Owen, Charles Fourier) which we'll get to soon. Maybe you should join the group if you're interested in the subject? ::wink, wink:: ::nudge, nudge:: :D

Do I need a copy of the book to do it or is it online text? I would prefer buy the book (but I don't have the money now) because I can't really read on the computer for long periods of time.

It's online here: http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1880/soc-utop/

If you find a paperback, it should be around $5, since it's a short pamphlet (~50 pages). It's probably included in most Marx/Engels readers too.

These are my top 5 books on Communism. Some of it may seem "off topic" because it deals with Africa, but there are parts of these books that give EXCELLENT analysis on Communism.

1. "Introduction" to Marxism by Emile Burns

2. "Materialism and the Dialectical Method" by Maurice Cornforth

3. "Historical Materialism" by Maurice Cornforth

4. "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" by Walter Rodney

5. "Class Struggle in Africa" by Kwame Nkrumah
