I heard that there was a movie in production about Che's life...as the Cuban Revolutionary. Cast by Benecio De Toro. Im curious...if anyone saw "Motorcyle Diaries" and what you think about US...using Hollywood to profit from this man's life.

Its crap how hollywood is profiting from The Motorcycle Dairys and all the profits should be sent to the poor

Hah, this is gonna be a dreadful film. Because they will either over glorify him to the point of it being syruppy sweet, of they'll make him look like a brutal soldier.

Bleh.

I always figure with "Motorcycle Diaries" a bunch of Hell's Angels ended up leaving the theatre "converted." The movie must have been a surprise for them!

It's always hard to do a movie-documentary on someone's life even if they try very hard for accuracy because of the time-constraints and the creative license and then of course the actors ability to pull it off. I am hopeful.

yeah, I have qualms about Hollywood profiteering off it. But, I wonder how many people will get turned on to Che and delve further and thus find an affinity with Leftism because of it. As long as the movie stays in print, it's unceaseable in what it can do for the our cause, Che's cause.

Motorcycle Diaries is amazing, I amm a student and share it with my friends...slowy they come back form more Left material. In the long term WE shal profit from it.

Hell, I just missed the last showing of Star Wars tonight, no big deal but I was looking forward to seeing it for the 2nd time, Star Wars is hella cool, expecially this last movie, I love the Darth Vader character - i was hooked as a kid.

But oh well, I'm just gonna kick off my shoes and wait for my buddy to drop off his bro then we're going to watch "Mortorcycle Diaries" only because they are familiar with the Gael Garcia Bernal because they've seen "Tu Mama Tambien". Pero, they know nothing about Che or his history. I'm actually pretty excited to show them this movie to be honest, I feel like I'm giong to introduce them to a whole new world. I've talked politics with this guy and he isn't the typical wanna-be Rambo commie hater. Plus he said he's heard of Che and seen the iconic pic of him but has never really bothered to find out about it. So with him and his chick, they're going to get a dose of clarity tonight, this is going to be fun.

i think it was an independant film that was picked up by hollywood, it was completely in spanish so obviously there is some lack of american capitalist infleunce.

i was into che because of the iconic image, it made me wanna find out about him and in turn it lead me here to this site. I loved the movie although i dont kno how accurate it is though (havent yet read any books about him) but it seemed to me that he really cared for people and understood their struggles so it no wonder why he was able to assemble sizable guerilla forces and start a whole bunch of revolutions

I know we wouldn't necessarily want George Clooney to play him due to the corporate Hollywood entertainment industry that George Clooney is involved with.
Is George even Hispanic?
Well, that being said, George is attractive and he has already had so much experience playing a doctor and he would draw crowds. The more people who see this movie the better (if it is portraying Che in a positive light). We could bring more people to the left!
I ultimately think the person who plays Che should be from Latin America and also be left leaning, just to capture the true spirit of the wonderful man we know as Che. Che's spirit and words live on and it would be great to see a film capture his essence..... :)

Hello people.I think the best and most intense actor to portray Che as a revolutionary would be Antonio Banderas. In fact I think he is the best suited actor in the world for this part and his very colourful, intense expressions would quarantee a success.

first of all...i look more like Che then both those fuck heads...why dont we just get the kid from motorcycle diaries and add alittle age on him? make him gain a few pounds with some extra muscle...it'll work...just keep the movie in SPANISH the way it should be...

second...honestly it doesnt bother me that hollywood would be making money off of it...pockets can only go so deep..but knowledge is infinite...once people see it they might begin to realize things they never thought of (depending on how good the movie is)...as long as people begin to KNOW about such great revolutionaries (especially the greatest revolutionary of them all as far as im concerned) then thats when i believe we'll have even more political awareness...which is what honestly most of us strive for...awareness

lets not go crazy this movie isnt gunna sell out on the first day, it wont win 5 oscars and this movie wont be in theaters as long as lord of the rings was...but at least people see it with their own eyes...thats good enough to begin the process of understanding...and who knows where it'll go from there

I think no one can really
play him and nobody looks really
like him.
If the the film is from hollywood
they´ll probably act as if the CIA had nothing
to do with his death..

Motorcycle Diaries was not made by Redford, but his company bought the rights to it to allow it to be seen in the US when all the other studio's passed. The US wants to prevent anything with Che from getting out because they fear a revolution, and with people like George Bush running the country, it's just a matter of time!

I think the same way as you do. The movie has to give the right message and make the people aware of his significant place in history but, in today's standards and the constant pressure of the American goverment is going to make this unlikely. They'll probably end up making the CIA not guilty of his death and even place the blame on somebody else, like Fidel. But I have my hopes. I hope that the movie (if done right) will open the eyes of the people because (like a comrade said earlier) awareness is our most precious weapon. When I became aware about Che, my life has changed dramatically ever since by making me a communist thinking man. I don't think that everyone watching this film is going to become left leaning afterwards but at least they will know the truth about him.

What about Diego Luna?

Bad choice. He is against Fidel and everything that has to do about the Cuban Revolution so he is definately against Che and his cause. Plus, he doesn't look like him at all. Nice try though!

Loca Freak that is a shitty picture of Del Tora.

Plus I think a lot of people well see this movie and well say thats guy is cool ima find out more about him and such and then hopefully they'll then read about real communism (not the shit they teach you in public schools).

BTW I first heard of Che from the animated video on newgrounds.com "Cows with Guns".

What I liked from the movie, was, in SPANISH all the time, and that they showed the CHE, liked a good person, that the only thing that he wanted was justice!
And I think that Gael Garcia, did a great job, because, he estudied EL CHE, and in all the movie he didn't show any mexican acent, just argentinian.

I agree with Colombia16, Gael Garcia Bernal who played Che in the Motorcycle Diaries and Fidel would make a good Che yet again. I also think that for him to have played Che twice he must be at least a little left-leaning and we already know he speaks spanish and english.
I also feel bad saying this but if it were to be made into a Hollywood blockbuster, that picture of Ashton Kutcher looked pretty good for a Che. A hell of a lot better than Clooney and I personally think that Benicio Del Toro looks like James Dean in a way.

Comrade LaVictoria, about six months ago I rented the sequel to "Dirty Dancing" where Diego Luna acted in and while watching the bonus features and interviews in one of them he said something like "the people comitted a grave mistake in backing Castro and the Revolution". Something like that. You know that Che was one of the most influential figures in the Revolution and believed in it. So if Luna is against the faith he must be against the believers of it. That includes Che and Fidel who is the leader. Rent the movie and see the interviews. When I saw it, I was dissapointed. Hope I helped you comrade! :)

They wont be able to bypass the ending of his life, which had more impact than anything else. Does anyone know what's Bolivia now since Che's death? Last I heard was when coca cola was stealing all their water so they revolted.

I would like to see in the movie not only Che's life, but the bigger picture, with Latin America's changing to this capitalistic/communistic struggle over power.

The Motorcycle Diaries was great. It got rejected for financing by Hollywood, but the British company FilmFour signed it up and financed it. God bless FilmFour.
