U.S. Imperialism is spreading. they own resources everywhere, and the media of most of the countries in the america's is american. but on the other hand, only a few hundred miles away from the u.s. lies cuba, a communist state lead by Fidel Castro. what affect does this have on the U.S.'s empire? (this is not a question, its supposed to get people thinking.)

i don't think it really has a significant affect at all. at least not at this point. at the most it serves as a little anti-u.s. propaganda depicting a midget standing in the face of a giant.
cuba is hardly communist.
Sorry to sound like a total newbie...But why do you believe Cuba is hardly communist?

i think people belive cuba is hardly communist anymore is becuse of all of the acttions takin by the cuba goverment. but i dont know if people know it or not but fidel dosent have very much power any more. and that means he dosent have much of an impact on america.
p.s. cuba is only 90 miles off the coast of the u.s.

unfortuanately, i think cuba's people arn't communist. its Castro. if he had had elections he probably could have kept himself in power for awhile and after that cuba would still be communist, and castro would be remembered as a hero who had a perfectly excecuted revolution, not an old man who won't let go of power. what i actually meant in my original post is how it influences the u.s.'s hold on countries near cuba. it must have some affect.

Cuba is not Communist because it has a centralised government. You will find most people on this board believe in complete abolishment of this, in order for true democracy to take course.
BUT it does have the benefit of being a feared socialist state right at America's back door, hence the continued Embargo against it.
I think the effect Cuba has on the 'US Empire', as you put it, is that it shows that Imperialism is not the only option. It has stood strong (not physically, but the mental strength of the Cuban people) against continued attack and acts as a beacon and a friend to the other Latin countries which are pushing towards socialism.
Cuba has shown the world it CAN be done, that a nation CAN stand up to America. It may not be Communist, but it is definitely anti-capitalist, and almost certainly the closest to socialist state in the world at the moment.

i couldn't agree more. i think that cuba is one thing that, even if small and fairly unimportant, and not even really communist scares the hell out of the U.S., because of its influence on other neighbouring countries, especially latin america.
