View Full Version : A question about Immortal Technique

Though I do not know alot about Immortal Technique, nor do I own much of his music, I had always thought of him as a bit of a revolutionary. However, recently I played the songs Bin Laden and Underground Railroad to a friend to show off some revolutionary rap.
After hearing both songs, my friend responded "Sounds like conspiracy theory rap to me" (paraphrased).
What truth do you think there is? It would appear that he does believe that the US administration caused the 9/11 attacks themselves.
Yeah he's all into that crap, it's a shame too

Some of his lyrics are really impressive and inspiring. A lot of it though is bizarre conspiracy theories and way too simplistic.
In one song he'll make an interesting point and say something I agree with and then he's off into the New World Order and Freemasons.
He also feels the need to be sadistic in order to appear hardcore. It seems way over the top and juvenile to me.
That being said he is one of the more knowledgable rappers around. Dead Prez's political philosophy for example is black nationalism with a dose of Maoism.

He was on tour with a black dj, I think Black Prometheus(?). He was a cool guy.

Six months before it happened kids, did the US government steal a TV idea? That's a really basic conspiracy theory I don't buy into but will say 'you never know'. The show aired later a bit before the attacks I think and only lasted a few episoded, 2 I think before promptly getting the axe due to the attacks.

The pilot episode of the Fox TV series The Lone Gunmen, which first aired in March 2001, involved a conspiracy theory as persuasive as anything which emerged post-9/11. In that episode, the Lone Gunmen (three characters who will be familiar to viewers of The X-Files) uncovered a plot by a group of Pentagon officials who were unhappy with the decline in defence spending following the end of the Cold War. The plotters seized control of a domestic airliner en route from Washington DC to Boston (not by hijacking it, but by hacking into its flight control computer), and set it on a collision course for New York’s World Trade Center. Their reasoning was that in the wake of such a high-profile atrocity, extremists around the world would be quick to claim responsibility, an outraged government would declare an all-out war on terrorism, and defence budgets would soar. In the TV version, the Lone Gunmen foiled the plotters, saving the plane and the Twin Towers. Tragically, in the real world six months later there was no such happy ending. Whether or not the US military/industrial complex really was behind the attacks, there’s no denying that it’s profited from them. The pilot episode was omitted from the Sci-Fi channel’s UK run of The Lone Gunmen, but a full transcript (on which my knowledge of the episode is based) can be found at http://www.insidethex.co.uk/transcrp/tlg179.htm

Immortal is class, anyone heard the re-mix with KRS & Chuck D?
By the way, Talib Kweli, Mos Def & Cypress Hill are true political rappers. Talib & Mos are campaigning for an an amnesty for Assata Shakur & Cypress are involved with an inner-city development program in L.A(along with Zach De La Rocha.) Immortal is simply a good rapper with a few delusions of grandeur as a revolutionary (like some of us...) Dead Prez also are not a good example as they pout leftist propaganda but do nothing in real terms.
P.S add Poor Righteous Teachers to the list of true revolutionaries

they do nothing in real terms? dude M-1 from dead prez is the administrator of the only hiphop union in existence..fighting for health care for all artists in need of it...dead prez also performs at rallys and shit...like the free mumia rallys for example
anyways...
i've seen immortal technique perform twice, met him twice, own both his albums and cant wait for the new one to come out...so i know a bit about him...i dont think he spits conspiracies....he does ALOT of research before he writes down lyrics and alot of the things he says make sense...im not gunna lie SOMETIMES he goes off alittle bit with an imagination...but when he says something directly its true
