Even today, almost 48 years after the death of Comandante Ernesto 'Che' Guevara the Revolution on the glorious Latin American continent continues. The last years were a time of neo-liberal oppression upon the people of a continent which stretches from Mexico to Chile. The brave and honourable souls exploited in order to enrich the imperialist coorporations who are part of a group of nations who claim to be the face of freedom and democracy, while in reality they are the exact opposite, thousands of people die daily due to their economical oppression upon our brothers and sisters in Latin America, Africa and Asia!

However the currents are changing, the brave people in Venezuela are trying to change things in their nation, soon other Latin American nations followed, left wing governments raised up from the ashes where the Yankee oppressor hoped they would stay, but this is no longer the case. Now it is the turn for Bolivia to demand their right to live and shape their own destinies. No longer will they be kept dependent from the capitalist coorporations and their imperialist governments, now the Bolivian people take the struggle to the streets!

It saddens me that the mainstream news isn't even mentioning this. This is probably the most obvious example of the north american/western european media bias I have seen first hand.

You're right, CrazyModerate.

I remember a few years ago when similiar protests were going on in Bolivia and there was a total US media blackout. I was just starting to become conscious of corporate media bias and learning about socialism then.

However the Western European press is far better compared to here. I've read many good articles from Spanish, French, Italian etc. papers on events in Latin America.

The incredible censorship and subserviance seems to be unique to the United States.

When I tell people about these goings on, they never believe me because its never on the TV. But now we have pictures to prove it.

I mean I have heard absolutely NOTHING about any of this, but CNN did spend a better part of an hour talking about the new Pepsi Lime vs. Coke With Lime competition.

Shoot me now.

Same thing with the situation in Darfur. They did like little segments of it on the news and if you missed it than you would have to hear it else where :che:

What is that flag?

RedSkinheadUltra
8th June 2005, 07:27
It is an indigenous (wiphala) flag.

Most of the protestors are Indian peasants from the El Alto area.

Maybe it's a good thing it's being poorly covered. If it isn't on CNN or Fox news then Bush's people won't hear about it.

Huh?

The White House, the Pentagon and the CIA don't get their intelligence from television news. The US has an embassy, military advisers and of course a CIA presence in Bolivia. The American public needs to be informed about what's going on.

Ignorance is bliss...for those in power anyway.

Or maybe you were just joking...

On the subject of media coverage, the BBC news website mentions it all.

Yes, I've seen video of the protests on BBC world news (broadcast via PBS) and have seen several articles regarding this in The Economist and The New York Times.

I think CrazyModerate was talking about television coverage in the United States.

For so far Ive only seen the BBC covering this on their website, not on tv...now when will the European media put this in tv? Of course not, they are busy with their own propaganda of globalisation and pro multinational coorporate thinking. I mean...we just had those constitution crap a couple of days ago which is all about the interests of the big companies, why show that these companies ruin countries...

El pueblo unido hamas sera vencido!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solidarity with Bolivian comrades.

As for media coverage.... most people here don't know who's Che. Historic figure! One of the most influential people!! All of my friends and acquaintances never heard about Pot Pol (a little research of mine). Not to mention Chavez... But they very well know who's Ronald MacDonald. Because he's everyday on TV screens.

With this recent advancement of the Bolivian people, such revolutionary potential must be put to good use - the autnonomy of Bolivia and the workers must be stressed. In the past these confrontations (Betchel water over-tax in 2000, unfair gas bill in 2003) have borne only new presidents who still have made concessions to the imperialists and exploitative companies (currently such gas companies want more thean 50% profit from their mining in Bolivia, which is essentially stomping on the workers). Bolivia needs to adopt a system like Venezuela and must be guided by the spirit of revolution, not reform, for reform is not what will evict the police off the streets.

Concerning media coverage, I saw a small bit on it in the Washington Post, but as Jim Shultz reported from his "Blog on Bolivia" (CONCERNED COMRADES, I SUGGEST YOU VISIT THIS SITE - www.democracyctr.org - FOR DAILY UPDATES ON BOLIVIA) that US media coverage is inadequate and generalizing. I have come to believe that, from this event as well as others, we cannot trust bourgeois media because it is superficial and misleading. I recommend that we view this event in Bolivia as well as others through socialist and leftist modes of media, if not simply truthful ones.
