i was talking to my friend and he said that boycotting doesnt help i told him it probley doesnt but its better to try to do something than sitting in your ass and not doing nothing What else should i have told him? He also told me that boycotting is bad because it gives less money to the people who work there because your not paying for the products He also told if it does succed we will just drive Those captilist corporations like mcdonalds, walmart, and etc out of business that mean the unemloyment rate will go up
Thanks :)
The point of a boycott is, generally, to force corporations to change rather than to disappear.
No one really thinks that a boycott, even a staggeringly successful one, is going to bankrupt Wal-Mart. But it just might prove enough of a hassle that it would become economically profitable for them to allow unionization.
Of course all of this is short-term solutions. In the end, your friend is right. Boycotting select companies doesn't solve the problem that, ultimately, it's the system that's the problem. Our long-term goal must accordingly be the destrouction of that system.
But that doesn't mean that, in the meantime we can't boycott the more extreme examples of the bunch.

You will also find you learn a LOT when you look into how deep companies go in order to boycott successfully. I started becoming left wing without knowing it. At 13 or 14 I wanted to "fight the power" and decided I would boycott coca-cola, which was fun and made me individual where I was, then it spiralled out of control and politics entered into the equation.
LSD is bang on, the companies won't g out of business, they will change to stay in business.
Another benefit is you will raise other people's awarenss without too much effort. People notice you being different.
You will also feel god about yourself, and in many cases become healther. Cut out the majority of soft drinks, and fast food, as well as non- fair trade chocolate and coffee, and see how your diet improves.
