Who are the female comrades here, I have not noticed many females in the movement, I don't know if that's in general or just in my area.

There's probably actually more than we realise on this site. Yes it is ignorant, but I usually just assume the members are male until they tell me differently.

Here be yet another. :)

It's difficult to tell with quite a few of the names.

So that no one assumes I am male, I will now say here that I am in fact female, whatever www.thespark.com says....

i'm female (although everyone assumes i'm male in this place, which is bizarre, i'd be worried about a guy called "mentalbunny"!!!)

Hmm. Comrade females of the past. Most notably is Rosa Luxemburg, Nadezhda Krupskaya (Lenin's wife) and... (damn, I can't think of any now, forgive me).

I'm glad that there are many here. And why shouldn't females be communists? It is even more apparent to females than to males, considering the oppression and discrimination for aeons.

Women, study the history of your fellow communists. Do as they've done. I most certainly like the demonstrations of the female workers in Russia right before the events of the revolution.

Alexandra Kollontai ( www.marxists.org/archive/kollonta ) is another good one. Hellen Keller was also a communist, I think.

we need more women in this forum to have their opinion repesented.

Exactly. The more the better.

Communism must consist of people from everywhere, no matter what the age, race, or gender.

Im female too.
There are quite a few here. But as someone sed (i cant remember who posted it) unfortunately everyone is presumed to be male until you find they are female.
Also the names arent obvious.

I don't even care of the gender. There must be no prejudicial blood in me if I wish to stay as a communist.

Comrade Stray raises one of those seemingly "simple" questions--who are the female comrades here?--that is actually fairly deep and not answered by a few famous names or self-identifications. (And certainly not answered by formulas like "who, me? I don't care about stuff like that.")

Anyone who's been around radical politics for more than a couple of years has noticed: men outnumber women by a substantial margin--my guess would be 9 to 1 in general, though it's certainly different in different areas. It's usually not considered polite to mention it...sort of like discussing why people need to use the toilet.

The real question is WHY? Women are close to 50% of the workforce now in all the industrialized countries except Japan, and they'll be caught up over there in a few decades at most. To all intents and purposes, half the working class is now female, and, if Marx was right, then they should be found in a like percentage in all forms of class-conscious activity.

There is a cultural lag involved here, and it may be another decade or two before the average radical political group is 50% women; if that's the case, then the comrades who have been around a while should NOTICE the growing proportion of female comrades. So I ask you, fellow veterans of the struggle, does it seem to you that more women are participating in radical political groups now than was the case when you first became politically active? Are their numbers measurably growing?

Because if they aren't, we have a problem...!

female... i hate it. not only am i female, i'm on the short side- 5'3 :(

people are always asking me if i want an "escort" or if i need help doing something, presumably because im a ''weak girl''. GRRRRRRRRRRRR i always turn them down, it doesn't matter if im carrying 90 lbs of cat litter (yes i can and have done that WITHOUT help thank you very much) through the store and to the car, i dont need help. nor do i want it. and the oh so protective police "escorts" at my campus can all take a flying leap.

I am the proud owner of a '79 Vagina.

Helen Keller is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing women who ever lived. Yes, she was a communist.
