Prague - A Czech classical musician on Tuesday appeared on television in Prague to deny he was the mysterious mute pianist found last month wandering on an English beach.
Tomas Strnad, a former rock musician whose fellow band members claimed was the unknown pianist, appeared on three Czech television stations to say he had been misrepresented.
"I want to take this matter in the right direction. This is someone else, not me," Strnad said.
The tall blonde pianist, thought to be in his 20s or early 30s, was found April 7 on a beach in southern England, soaking wet but fully dressed in a black suit from which all the labels had been removed and with no ID documents on his person.
He has not spoken since and has not responded to written appeals while being kept under observation in a psychiatric hospital.
But he has fascinated social workers, the British media and the general public over his one means of communication: playing classical piano music.
Two Czech musicians had claimed after seeing photographs in the media that the unknown man was their former fellow rock band member Strnad.
More than 1 000 people have responded to an appeal for information that could help identify the pianist, and have suggested about 250 possible names, British police said. - Sapa-AFP
He only communicates through classical piano and drawing. Time traveller? Autistic prodigy? Tortured be parents forced to train hard, socially awkward and has finally escaped?
What is the explanation I wonder; it's one of the most interesting things I've heard all year. I read he plays like a master how can he be unknown and of our time?
Publicity stunt? I don't think so because he's in an instituition now I think.
If somebody knows more please post it.
