What do you think of the ACLU?

For what it does, I think the ACLU is quite good.

Certainly any organization fighting consolidated state power on social issues should be commended for that.

Yes, the ACLU is no solution to class struggle, but in terms of what they do do, they are quite good as Lysergic Acid Diethylamide pointed out. If it wasn't for the ACLU one of my former teachers would have probably been suspended or fired for teaching about the "Iraqi Prison Scandal" in a current events class... as if it's not a current event, and as if it's not relevant.

I respect the ACLU for what they do, but I don't particularly like them. You see, to try to be as fair as possible they stand up for all civil-rights violations, including, standing up for hate groups like the KKK and nazis. But I respect their principles, and they defend minorities and people that really need it more than they defend the nazis so they aren't that bad.

The ACLU stands up for people who no one else will stand up for. They also are using their influence to check the power of the Bush administration, which no other mainstream orginization in the uS has done. More power to the ACLU!

the ACLU was started by communists, to keep US communists out of prison. Out of necessity, they spread the umbrella to inlcude all free speech.

I'm a member, but I don't necessarily agree with everything they do. Much of what they do is good, however, at least as good as it can possibly be in bourgeoisie politics. Much of it simply has to do with retaining the right to be anti-establishment in this current society, which I find especially important.

Although, for some fucked up reason, even mail from the ACLU comes to my house already opened. How's that for paranoia :P

The ACLU helps Americans keep their freedoms, no matter what.

More power to them.

The ACLU has done a lot of good. They don't seem to be intimadated by the govt. that they often face. And as noted before I could post, they were started in an attempt to protect U.S. communist. I may not agree with every fight they take on, but I have to like the fact that they stick to their word of protecting, and fighting for all people who rights have been violated. Even the shit eating kkk and other like minded scum.

hah, no, you don't have to be a lawyer. As long as you're a legal adult you can sign up for membership and go to meetings and such.

I like them when they attack our enemies.

I don't have any use for them otherwise.

As Red says, with groups like this, you've just got to take things on at a time. When they're attacking the Christians, then yes, great. When they're defending the KKK, stay well clear.
