I think that, of all the various essays I've read since September 11, 2001, this one (http://www.commondreams.org/views02/0924-01.htm) may be the most powerful. Filled with information, perspective and compassion, it isn't just a prejudicial rant. I highly recommend taking the time to read it, especially as the US gears up for another war.

I've read quite a few "one year since september 11" articles, and you're right, this is one of the best. It helps put the tragedy of that fateful day in the perspective of a world system which starves tens of thousands to death every day, but at the same time, it doesn't belittle the victims of terrorism.
This is another good article which I've come across, which nicely sums up all the draconian changes to American law which have taken place (there have been so many, its hard keeping track) : http://www.wsws.org/articles/2002/sep2002/.../demo-s11.shtml (http://www.wsws.org/articles/2002/sep2002/demo-s11.shtml)
