I'm still new to all of this and i do not know what people mean when referring to a leftist or being left.

I'll be as simple as possible, other members can clear it up in page long essays but i would like to spare you the time.

There are two kinds of lefts.

There is economic left and economic right. The economic left believe that all the business should be controlled by the people. The economic right believe that business should be controlled by the government or the business class (a popular name for them is the boergeois, rich people basically).

There is political left and political right. The political left believe that the government should be liberal and let the people decide how to run their lives. The political right believe that the people should be governed closely using law, family values and the Church/ religion.

These two can be mixed into different combinations.

Nazism is economic left, political right. dangerous mix.
Anarchism is economic left, political left.
Capitalism is economic right, political centre right. It used to be political right but society has changed over the centuries.
