View Full Version : The French invade a soverign nation

The French have done something that doesn't quite fit with their anti-war position on the US, it has sent it's military to take over the country of the Ivory Coast. In an act of Imperialism, under the auspicies of peacekeeping, France has invaded one of its many former colonies and will soon take it over.
This is the same thing Israel is doing to Palestine, the same thing the US is doing to Afghanistan, and the same thing the US will probably do in Iraq. Please take a stand against this act of French aggression and let the people of the Ivory Coast work out their internal affairs without external influences.

i condemn this action, but you forgot to mention that they came to help the president against a military coup. i don't support the french, but you forgot to mention it.

I don't think a coup would change Ivory Cost in a good way.But the french are taking that as an excuse to do what they've done in the past it should be the un that decides not one nation from a totaly diferent reality that doesn't understand what's happening.

1) there *is* a mutual assistance treaty between France and the ivory coast , and Abidjan hasn't even asked it to be activated
2) the official goal of those 600 odd guys isn't to help the "legitimate" regime, but protect and evacuate the 20000 odd foreignb inhabitants , and not intervene ...
3) way to go, supporting military coups ...
shows great political maturity folks ...

That's the same excuse the USA used when they sent the Marines into the Dominican Republic in 1966 to stop Juan Bosch. (A socialist returning to power and DR's first democratically elected president since the 31 year USA supported murderous regime of Rafael Trujillo)

ivory coast got independence in 1,960 under the leadership of hopoa buanny(i hope i didn't have typos in this name).
1,990-first democratic elections. hopoa buanny wins.
1,993-hopoa buanny dies. lanry konan badie wins the elections. in his presidency there is corruption, and an economic crisis.
1,998-protests against badie decision to expend his powers.
1,999-military coup by the leadership of rober gey. he don't make elections like he promised.
2,000-elections. gey get 33% of the votes. the supporters of his opponent loren gebabo(55% of the votes)start to protest. in the end gey is running from the country and gebabo become president. since then, the most successful country in west africa have become a sea of political violence. but it is still the most the most successful country in west africa.

good summary
except it is Houphouet-Boigny and Gbagbo :)
and a lebanes friend whose parents live in ivory coast tells me the situation in Abidjian is pretty calm, but looks rather hellish farther inland ... :/

First, I'm French.
I don't think France want "invaded one of its many former colonies and will soon take it over" but only help Ivory Coast to stay in peace.

france, america etc are cristian nations so its ok to invade other countries because cristian nations are good
(sarcasm)

if france was a muslim nation it would be seen as an invasion and no-one would stand for it

I don't think there is a relation with religion. France is not like USA. France want peace on the earth, America want control all countries to steal their resources.

you are a total idiot with no idea of what the situation is ...
Invade with 100 men ... pfff
funny they are in Abidjian, while the fighting is at Korhogo and Bouaké ...

that's mostly BS
France is far from perfect, *especially* in its african policy ...
but *"France has invaded one of its many former colonies and will soon take it over" are the either the ramblings of a paranoid and depressed teenager, or those of a masterfull troll ...

"France want peace on the earth".
This is bullshit.
As US government and a lot of governments in the world, the french government just want to make money.
What are they doing for the peace?
Nothing.
So don't be so naive.

France don't want make money on War or on Peace. If France want money, she won't go in a poor country.

John Difool
24th September 2002, 14:37
there's always money to be made ...
The inhabitants might be poor, but the land itslef is rich ... look at the former Zaïre and its diamonds ...
madfavikia : your view of France is way too idealistic...
Loïc : I *Hope yours way too dark compared to reality *;)

didn't the authorities blamed muslim forigen workers for the uprising?

John Difool
24th September 2002, 16:25
They accuse the former Junta leader Guei, and blame their neighbours fro providing heavy weapons to the rebels :/
some used the coup as a pretext to blame the foreigners, wery numerous in the country
Sure some paramilitary group will see the troubles as a perfect environment to eliminate political adversaries .
fucked up situation :/
and the US have sent ~15O troops to evacuate ~100 american kids in a school for children of missionaries in the center of the country ...
