For Christ's sake---it's right after RS2K's thread.

It's called a post, not a thread. I thought you were talking about a thread, as in collection of posts about a certain topic.

Oddly enough that is one quote that bothers me about Che, at least the philanthropy part.

No credible evidence of any interest in religion on Che's part has ever emerged and, since he did claim to be a Marxist, the presumption is that he was therefore an atheist.

Why? 'Philanthropy' is what people with lots of money do to make themselves feel better/improve their image/write off on taxes, whilst also using it to patronise the poor, it does nothing to challenge the structure of society (capitalism), that creates problems in the first place. It's bourgeois/reactionary.

I think Che, like most latin americans, was raised catholic but I too believe that he made the change to atheist, like Fidel and many others involved with the revolution.

I read how che's family used to go to church once in a while, and then just flat out didnt attend church. Che's mother was not a church-goer. They must have gotten a negative vibe from those churches.

If you read/watch the Motorcycle Diaries you will see how they were not given food at the San Pablo leper colony because they didn't attend mass. In fact if you read any of his books you can see he is an atheist.

Che was an ATHEIST. Here are some facts and then you decide if he was an atheist.

1. He was brought up in a freethinker enviroment. His mom was an atheist who never went to mass and when Che was in Elementary School, His father was requesting that his sons to be excluded from Religion classes at school..( isn't it amazing, they taught religion in public schools)

2. when he was a commandante in the guerrila force. Che came across a gifted captain who deserted from the Army. The Captain, ( I forgot his name... SOrry, I will refer and will get his name later.) was assigned to train new recruits. and to stop potential deserters from the guerrilla recruits the captain Proposed to che that they would be made to swear by God.

Che, Of course said... " now, that is wrong, like me for instance, I DON"T BELIEVE IN GOD, do you think it is right to make me swear in something I never believed in?"

and like Redstar said... He was a marxist, therefore he did not believe in God.

That Quote Posted by Comrade RedStarOverChina is also authentic, I remember reading it few years back somewhere.

I hope this answers everything....
