Well I was working at the local market saturday morning. All the communist parties and trade unions go there and leaflet and so on. There was a party I'd never seen before there and they were selling "The Militant". They seem to be international (most left NZ parties are very sectarian, or just centre left in nature) and think the cuban revolution was the most advanced so far. They had che books and anti capitalist books, they also have a bookshop I will be checking out soon.

The only thing is I didn't find out who there associated parties are around the world. I hope someone here can help me out.
Does anyone know who publishes "The Militant" and who are the "young socialists"?

Here's a site to jog the memory:

There was a good article on Malcolm X there too.

The Militant works almost exclusivley with the SPUSA here in florida. I have also worked with them both in Atlanta, so it might be the whole united states. The militant is a great paper, and they hold lectures almost every friday night at their various locations. There are two in florida for everyone who is in florida. One in miami (downtown) and one in Tampa which is to far for me and therefore i don't know what goes on in that one. They have great speakers and i have met some great socialists at these lectures and have begun to help campaign the socialist candidate for florida (Rachele Fruit). She also wrote various articles for The Militant.

Isn't the Militant the publication of the SWP?

The Militant is old, and as interesting as ever. :)

Used to promote itself heavily in the Marxist magazine series, the New International (http://www.pathfinderpress.com/d02/d02p05.shtml), from many years back (not to be confused with the New Internationalist (http://www.newint.org/index4.html) magazine, though both are along liberal lines and both are an excellent read.)

"Isn't the Militant the publication of the SWP?"

That's my understanding.

In the US that title I think belonged to the SWP, in the UK it belonged to an entryist group in the labour party.
It might be another group using the title.
Such is the way of our sadly fragmented left.

Peacenicked,

It's the SWP paper. I used to read the print version sometimes and then read it online when it was a gopher site. The columns are the same, though they seem to have done away with the "25 and 50 years ago" column. But Harry Ring's "The Great Society" has been around a long time, and the Militant Labor Forum section.

Yep. Same paper.
