I heard SARS was caused by pollution....

Does it grade pollution by volume or by amount per person, because if it is by volume it doesn't surprise me at all. Also it doesn't surprise me that the US is numbr one, we have terrible enviromental policies and we have the highest cars per person ration.

Yes, and China is set to overtake the U.S. in the future. The leading cause of death is respiratory illness and none of the major cities lack significant pollution.

It's by weight. From the first link given: "The 2002 China figures represented 3.2 tonnes per person. The figure for the US is 19.4 tonnes per person and for Germany, 10.2 tonnes."

Probably that's mostly/nearly all CO2. This is Kyoto/global warming stuff. Probably doesn't give a full picture of the different types of pollution in these various countries.

The world will have even more problems as China and India continue to industrialize. Besides the economic problems it gives America, Green house gas emissions will become intolerable.
