View Full Version : Critique of National Bolshevism

This is a short critique of the threats posed by National Bolshevism to scientific socialism. By their own words, National Bolsheviks are not allies of the workers, by logical conclusion National Bolshevism is a political ideology that competes against socialism, and by the commingling of National Bolsheviks and scientific socialists, scientific socialism will be undermined by metaphysical and unscientific ideas.

National Bolshevism is not an ally of the working class.

The third-positionist NBP's connection to the far right, arguably fascism, has been well noted. Let us take time to examine their political programme. Here is the purpose of National Bolshevism taken from their party programme:

"Global purpose of National-bolshevism is the creation of Empire from Vladivostok up to Gibraltar on the basis of Russian civilization."

Upon inspection of their party programme and origins it becomes clear that National Bolshevism is no friend of the workers because of the fact that empires do not serve the interests of those who fight their wars, i.e., workers. Regardless of whether their goals resemble the program of Marxist-Leninists such as the "progressive nationalization" of industry, it is clear that this is only intended to aid the creation of their empire and its expansion from "Vladivostok to Gibraltar."

The NBP plan for the state:

"Having come to power, NBP will make revolutionary on the scales of transformation in Russia, will construct the TOTAL STATE, the human rights will concede a place to the rights of a nation. Inside the country the iron Russian order, climate of discipline, bellicose and diligence will be established."

It is worthy of note that because the NBP does not share the class view of scientific socialism, they support the state; an instrument of class oppression. Considering their state will be an empire stretching from "Vladivostok up to Gibraltar," with a "climate of discipline" and "bellicose," we can deduce that this state will not be a proletarian dictatorship.

National Bolshevism is in direct competition with Marxist ideology.

While their numbers grow, the numbers of communists will continue to decline. I will not excuse our lack of vigilance by means of placing blame on the National Bolsheviks or other Third-Positionists, but it must be clear that the National Bolshevik ideology is in direct competition with the ideology of socialism. As the National Bolsheviks begin to march with Communists, they will recruit them. National Bolshevism is a third-positionist threat, and we must recognize it as such. The International Third Position declares that the socialist concept of ownership is an "inhuman and unjust concentration."

National Bolshevism has the potential to destroy or weaken the scientific basis for Marxist socialism.

"National Bolshevism isn't monolithic. However, I think it is safe to say that National Bolshevism is a congeries of pseudo-ideologies often used by neo-Nazis--possibly originally constructed by neo-Nazis--as a sort of "entryism" with respect to the Communist movement. Neo-Nazis have attempted to infilitrate the anarchist and libertarian movements by dint of promoting similar pseudo-ideologies (National Anarchism, etc)."

This threat of "entryism" as described by Comrade DPRK is when un-socialist concept and ideology becomes a kind of 'Trojan horse." National Bolsheviks will attempt to graft their ideology onto the mainstream socialist movement, and by perverting it from its strong Marxist origins, dilute it from a scientifically methodical system of thought into a metaphysical trap. As this occurs, some socialists may be fooled by the National Bolshevik rhetoric and may be turned against Marxist socialism itself. More likely, however, is the prospect that the tolerance of National Bolsheviks as allies against capitalism will create divisions in the workers' movement. In a time where socialism is splintered into hundreds of factions, we do not need yet another deviation from the movement.
