The working class in Pakistan is on the move after decades of inactivity. This was proved on May Day this year. The Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign (PTUDC) organized for May Day on a national level. There was widespread participation of workers, trade union leaders, political activists and youth in the May Day events in 26 different cities. A marvellous poster was launched and pasted all over the country and at all work places. We present here a detailed report of the events.

Surely Pakistan is much too religious for any sort of Communist revolution to ever succeed ?

True, but i can't see such a strongly Islamic country swapping the Qu'ran for the Communist manifesto.

Almost every single one of my Pakistani friends are sympathetic to the cause of Communism. One of Pakistan's prime ministers(arguably the best), Bhutto was a socialist who was unfortunately overthrown by a dictator called general Zia.

Pakistanis in general dont have the dislike against communism--at least their dislike isnt as strong as that of most other nations.

we should form a temporary alliance with some religious groups to achieve certain immediate goals. For example, an allaince with the Muslims suffering under imperialism. We need their help to fight imperialist aggression.

Actually it is a misconception about Pakistan that the working class is religious there. Most of the mosques in the cities are empty, but there is a strong religious sentiment among the petty bourgeois in the country side. The movement there is lead by mostly Trotskyist, the Stalinist taking the typical opportunist approach in Pakistan. Marxist.com has a lot of articles about the movement in Pakistan.

Also, moderate and libreal muslims can still be socialists. Socialism can work with religous people.
