The Communist Manifesto is rather simple and short compared to other Marxist works. Its a great book for beginners, but keep in mind, the Manifesto is not exactly the current or final goals of Communists today, since many of the 10 points Marx advocated for have already in some form incorprated into society. But, it is a great book to introduce a person to idea of class struggle and Historical Materialism.
Bighead - its well worth reading, but whether its hard to read or not depends on what and how much you have read already.
Reading it at 14ish when i hadnt read much political theory type stuff it wasnt too easy going, reading it 5 years later its simple!

I think this thread is in a WEE -bit- wrong forum ;)
But as for that, I recommend reading "Das Kapital" instead, atleast before going at doing the 'Manifesto first.

You recommend reading Das Kapital, before the Manifesto? That's like reading "Brave New World" before "My first ABC".
Anyway as with all books, just start reading it and if it bores you or is too hard then quit reading it. It's a good simple, short book though. I would to read it atleast twice, to make sure you got all the points. Moving it to Literature.
Another good introductory piece - The Principles of Communism (http://marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/11/prin-com.htm)
