The British Garrsion on these islands is being boosted from 3000 troops to 5000 troops amid islanders fears of a new invasion by Argentina.
Can anyone provide an explanation as to why the UK still occupy this part of the world????
EXCEPT FROM THE FACT THAT THE ISLANDS NOW PROMISE TO BE THE NEW PETROLEUM FRONTIER???
Continuing European colonialism. Makes me ashamed to be british.
I discovered this from one sunday UK newspaper. Has anyone else heard or read anything on this subject???

A new invasion, yeh right! You know the rgentinians offered each citizen on the isalnds a huge some of money to become argentine, i think itw as in the region of $100 000 to $250 000 each.

No I didn't know that.
The average islander is now a third richer than his UK counterpart so I guess that explains why they didn't take up that offer.
They shouldn't be offered anything - just removed to the UK!!!!
I was sceptical when I read the article until I got to the "oil" bit.

The Falklands belong to latin america and Argentina. Britain has no business being there just like have no business still controlling Reunion island near Madagascar. Colonialism isn't dead yet!

However it can be argued that capitalism gave rise to colonialism. Take for instance the british-east india company. The british entered india which at the time was ruled by the moghuls as tradersthen slowly took over the country.

The islands were never part of Argentina, however I do agree that they belong to Argentina...hmm its funny to watch Argentines get very hostile towards English people

I knew someone briefly who later joined RAF intelligence, apparently the UK has a number of territories they are holding onto for the transport of oil. A a ban on drilling oil from the antarctic is going to be lifted..
I don't know how much truth is in this but that's what he said :P

Hmm...there is little what can be done if the English want to drill for oil, but doesnt Argentina also own a small part of Antartica?

Invading the Falklands is one of stupidest things Argentina ever did, doing it again would be pure folly. It's like Gibraltar - let the inhabitants decide.

You know how the British colonial system worked right? I mean they took over a place, started breeding like rabbits which meant they became a big part of the population...
It's like going to Guantanamo Bay and asking the locals there if they want to be part of Cuba again

The Brits don't belong in Malvinas just as they don't belong in Ireland.

There's no way Argentina would attack it, thus legitmizing retaliation by England and her allies eg. the U.S. who they are quite fearfull of preasure from.

Not only do you sound like some crazed loyalist, you couldnt be more wrong!
Ireland cannot be part of Britain - Ireland and Britain are two seperate islands.
Ireland is free from Britain, apart from the Orange cleric state of the Occupied Six.

I think you misunderstand me, Ireland is part of the British Isles geographically speaking. Britain includes, England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. I am not a loyalist I was merely referring to the poster who said Britons had no business in Ireland - I think what he meant was the English.

You cant call the British Isles Britain. I apologise for any insinuation that you were a loyalist, but calling the whole bunch of islands Britain is offensive to the Irish.

Then I retract but it was really just a case of the wrong wording. Apologies.

Me too, I'll choose my words more wisely in future
Calling the whole of Ireland part of Britain isnt that offensive. I find calling northern Ireland "Ulster" to be offensive because it is innacurate. To call Ireland part of the UK on the other hand would be offensive. Britain is a dead name, the empire is now only a commonwealth and its name should not be feared or regarded as legitimate, it is slang.

Ireland is free from Britain
Ireland is not free from Britian, the brits still occupy 6 northeastern counties and Ireland is not economialy free from British imerialism.
Even if Ireland were united today the working class would still not be free till there is a Workers Republic in power.
