today, we are marking 20 years since the massacre in Sabra and Shatila, two refugee camps in lebanon. on this day, the israeli minister of defence, ariel sharon (now serving as prime minister of israel) allowed the chirstian flangs to enter the refugee camps, and slaughter the thousands of its inhabitants.

after the massacre, an outcry of the israeli left lead to the formation of an investigation commitee, which concluded that sharon shall not serve israel again as minister of defence. ironically, 19 years later, he was elected prime minister.

You have to admire the israeli politics, now don't you?

...and there was no punishment for that either. Sharon got off practically scot-free. Can you imagine what would have happened if a Palestinian had done that? There streets would have run red with Palestinian blood in blind retaliation. An eye for an eye makes for a blind world.

Truly sick and sad. How could they elect such a monster...and they complain the Palestinans are at fault...they've been murdered more than the Israelies who have high tech weapons purchased from the "world's leader of democracy." I don't agree with violence of any kind, but the Palestinians have nothing but themselves to defend their homes.

the Kahane Report (http://www.caabu.org/press/documents/kahan-commission-contents.html)

basically, their conclusions can be interpreted as the affirmation that Sharon was an utterly incompetent idiot (as were most of the others guys staffing him) by "planing" that operation with the phalangists ...
He is accused to bear the consequence of a gross, albeit unvoluntary (that question imho, still remains, but I'll admit having no clear cut opinion on that subject despite a pronounced dislike for Sharon) error of joudgment .
Makes you wonder how that guy, described as the epithomy of short term (non)thinking, can be the Prime minister of the country on earth that's the most in the need of a prudent and circumspect leader. Quite a chance for peace and Israelian/palestinian concord that guy is ...

For those that don't know, the Lebanese Falange militia that commited this atrocity were actually a Fascist group, in the proper sense of the word. They were a maronite Catholic faction which supported Hitler during ww2. The name "falange" is similar to the Spanish "Phalangists", who were also Fascists, who fought against the republicans in the Spanish civil war.

In other words, some 40 years after the holocaust where 6 million jews were massacred, the state claiming to represent world Jewry formed an alliance with an essentially fascist militia.
