Wow, it's been ages since I've posted here! Anyway enough of the nostalgia. Is anyone here involved in social centres? Can anyone give me the names of a few around Europe? I'm thinking of spending some of summer 2006 gong round social centres, see what's happening, getting involved and writing some articles on it. I might get started this summer in London, depends on how things are going. I need some funds first.
Anyway information would be much appreciated. I've got a little info, I've already found the ASS (Advisory service for squatters) website which is really useful. If people can give me general tips on getting into the squatting/social centre "scene" (can't think of a better word) I'd really appreciate that too.
much love.

Go to Italy. It is a quite a difference between the squats in for example Germany and the social center movement in Italy. And there is hundreds of them in Italy.

Djehuti beat me to it. There is a particulaly grand social centre in Milan. It maybe worth looking at the IAF website (in my sig) and contacting some of the groups to see if they can help you.

I'd also like to add that these Social Centres aer becoming rather a big thing in England too. Dissent have contributed allot of time to this and there have been some specific grant funds set up to help start Social Centres. There is a new one in Leeds and a great one in Nottigham called the Sumac Centre: http://www.sumac.org.uk/
These new Social Centres may be able to help you also.

I've been to the one in Leeds it took me and my mate ages to find :(. We had to take a short brake from finding the Leeds Social centre and go for a pint. We found it eventually. It was near the corner exchange.
Isn't Leeds social centre only a short term project?

Thanks for the info. I know about the big one in Milan already, it's on my list!
Check out http://libcom.org/britain where there are listed all the active SC's in Britain.

I've started hearing a lot about social centres. Apparently, its becoming all the rage.
My band is aided something like it, as we are guerilla gigging all around my town, but I was told about social centres from someone on this board, and am thinking of starting on.

Good good. I'm particularly interested in social centres and the like in Germany, since I can actually (attempt to) speak german and I'd like to go there during my gap year. Anyone got any info?
