If you listen to the government down in Washington about their belief in this need to invade Iraq, it all centers on the belief that Iraq may or be near possession of "Weapons of Mass Destruction." Quite frankly, the bomb.
However, a vast array of nations in this world are in possession of nuclear warheads, the United States being one of them. Who is to say that Iraq has any less right to it than the US? Who is to say that Iraq is less "reliable" or "Wise" than other members of the nuclear club like India, Pakistan, China, etc...? Iraq today a "Rouge State" part of Bush's "Axis of evil", yet 20 years ago recived funding and military supplies from the Reagan administration to fight Iran.
And, if the mere possession of "Weapons of mass destruction" validates a war against Iraq, than wouldn't the fact that the US has more "weapons of mass destruction" than anyone else be enough to validate the rest of the world attacking the US?
It seems like the "Have your cake but eat it too" syndrome the US seems to be affected by.
Don't get me wrong; I think it's a good thing that the Bush Administration wants to prevent the possibility of a nuclear war. However... the first step is DISARMERMENT!
Only after the US has disarmed and safely disposed of ALL of it's nuclear armament..( not simply store it) Can it talk about disarming other nations.
