today, we are marking 9 years since the signing of the Oslo Peace Accords. nine years ago, in Oslo, israeli prime-minister and minister of defence, Yitzhak Rabin (may he rest in peace) and chairman of the palestinian authority, met to sign the first of the two agreements, that were suppose to ultimately lead to a palestinian state, and peace in the land between the river and the sea. oslo meant hope, peace and prosperity. the chance to end the vicious cycle of blood that took the lives of hundreds of palestinians and israelis.
the agreements caused havoc in israel. the israeli right fiercely objected to the peace process, and started to systematically incite against the prime-minister, and presented him as a nazi officer. eventually, after a huge peace rally in tel aviv, the prime minister was assassinated. this brought the end of the oslo peace acccords.
