Girl suspended for saying 'hell'
A seven-year-old girl has been suspended from her school in the US for saying the word "hell" to a classmate.
Brandy McKenith from Pittsburgh said she was punished because she had explained to a boy who had said "I swear to God" that he would go to hell.
The Pittsburgh school district is investigating the suspension.
The student code bans profanity but does not give a clear definition of what profanity is, a Public Schools spokeswoman told local press.
'Biblical context'
Brandy told the BBC's World Today radio programme that she did not think she had been rude.
Her father, Wayne McKenith, told the programme he was outraged at this week's decision by Sunnyside Elementary to impose a suspension.
"I thought it was utterly senseless, especially in the context - the Biblical context - she used it in."
"Here in America we have real problems in schools," he said.
"We have guns, drugs, dope, and you're worried about a kid saying hell in a Biblical context - and you suspend her for that."
The girl's parents complained to the principal of the elementary school, which is in the north-eastern state of Pennsylvania.

This is a good point he raises.
There are so many other things which threaten people's lives which they choose to turn a blind eye too. Profanity doesn't make a school unsafe, and safety should be the most important issue.
We have guns, drugs, dope
That sounds like one dangerous primary school

What's so dangerous about dope?
When I was in 3ed grade I said hell and only got a note home.
I called a racist teacher I had a ***** and got 3 days of In School Suspension.
I really don't like censorship. Words should not hurt you. If I had called my teacher a ***** then slaped her then I should have gotten in trouble.
And both times I just muttered it under my breath. <_<

Yeah, why was she telling the other little boy he was going to go to hell, that is reason for a day's suspension. a.) Bringing religious threats into the classroom. b.) Beating some boy over the head with your Catholic, Fundamentalist, Judeo-Christian crapola and predaining their future existence, that's bad Karma. Oh well two wrongs don't make a right.
If most teachers were to suspend every kid that cursed in say middle school, that'd fire their ass. Because they would be sending everyone home, and they would be really unpopular with the parents. Seeing is this is not possibly a rule that can be applied across the board unless you suspend most of the school, I think favoritism would definately be involved.
I prefer freedom of expression myself, kids make me laugh when they curse, I guess that makes me a piss poor role model, oh well!!!

Maybe she was also having other problems. Social problems, behavior problems and the teachers decided she needed a short break from school. Maybe a parent complained and threatend to sue the school if action was not taken.
