Its an excellent movie, it showed the insanity of the Hitler's elite, still deluded with the idea of final victory while their own "weak" (Hitler belived that the ones left didn't deserve to live) German people were suffering the brunt of Russian retribution. While they dined in their bunker, German civilians were being blown to bits by artillery fire outside.
That reply proofs to me exactly why I have a problem with that movie as a German.
The movie shows the "poor, misguided German people" and the "evil, insane Nazi elite" on the other side. The movie is aggravating the myth of the German right-wing about the Germans as a victim of both the "evil Russians" and of a insane Nazi leadership. As if the Nazi leadership was completly seperated from the people, and acting on it's own. The truth is, most Germans dis support Hitler until the very end, the "total war" which most once supported, came back to them in a way they deserved. The German people as a whole made the Nazi dicatorship possible, passivly or actively, and no German should ever forget that.
"Der Untergang" is a load of bullshit.
Deutsche Täter sind keine Opfer - German culprits are no victims!
