If you noticed the smilie signalling that it was a lighthearted comment based on the fact i had just seen de la soul live and they had mixed all of ATCQ's best songs; and it was amazing.

Tupac changed mine, and a lot of other people's lives.

Regardless of whether you think Tupac Shakur was good, bad, overhyped, a jerk, a maniac...You cannot deny his heart. He put so much of himself into his art, and he made everything he made so filled with emotion. The love he felt for the world is unconditional and infinite. His whole life, he was addicted to drugs and alcohol, all because he was worried that the world was a sad place, and that people were still in suffering. He even shaved his hair balled because hair would fall out, due to stress, if he let it grow! He grew up in the slums, and saw horrable things happen to friends and family. He wanted to end this poverty and pain and make things better for his people.
But more importantly, you could FEEL him in his music. Whenever I listen, it's like he's in the room with me, telling me that there is hope, and that we can change and that everyone can be free. But he's also telling me his sadness and his depression. He's telling me the pain of having to watch a friend die in your arms, and having to sell drugs and carry a gun so that you can have something to eat.

Tupac's story is one of triumph, not trajedy. He continues to inspire millions of people around the world to have compassion and love for your fellow man. If it wasn't for him, I would've never become a socialist, and who knows where that may take me in life...

So please, don't disrespect him. Try to understand what he has given to so many of us: Hope.

Peace.

"I remember crying all the time. My major thing growing up was I couldn't fit in. Because I was from everywhere, I didn't have no buddies that I grew up with...Every time I had to go to a new apartment, I had to reinvent myself, myself. People think just because you born in the ghetto you gonna fit in. A little twist in your life and you don't fit in no matter what. If they push you out of the hood and the White people's world, that's criminal...Hell, I felt like my could be destroyed at any moment."

"To me, it reall y troubling because I took ouver at that's successful- Marky Mark, Hammer, Vanilla Ice, New Kids On The Block selling twenty-two million copies, and I want that [kind of success] so badly, but I can't do that. I would be wrong to do that, knowing what I know and having the brain that I have, for me to even go and write some simple shit would be wrong even though I would get paid and I would get more people's money. I would rather leave something so that when people pick up 2pacalypse Now or any of my other albums in 1999, they'll go, Damn! Brothers had it hard back in the day, but brother were working it out."

"My raps are a decision, rabble rousing, spiritual, like gospel music. I don't want to dance. We have so many things to deal with, we need to talk straight up and down."

"I don't advocate senseless violence of any human being. I'm the one who's been beat down. But I will not be a victim again."

"So many other things for us to see, Things to be, Our history so full of tragedy and misery."

"'Cause if God wrote the Bible, I'm sure there would have been a revised copy
by now. 'Cause a lot of shit has changed. I've been looking for this revised copy.
I still see that same old copy that we had from then. I'm not disrespecting anyone's religion, please forgive me if it comes off that way, I'm just stating my opinion."

"I feel like role models today are not meant to be put on a pedestal. But more like angels with broken wings"

"The only thing America respects is power and power concedes nothing. After the LA Riots, they tried to calm us down and nothing changed since"

"And still, the best of us build, and reach monetary gains. Some of us kill, but still, most of us can change."

Tupac was an excellent rapper and for whatever idiot who said he wasn't good because he was inconsistent, evolving attitudes are part & parcel of a great artist (think Lennon, Nas, Elvis, etc.)

BTW, he's definately dead, Assata Shakur (his grandmother?) lives in Cuba.

Hampton

I'm not sure how he was a coperate whore. He was signed to a label whos owner is a gangster involved in beatings and murders. Of course he made/makes money that is what any popular musical artist will do but to say that just ignores his music and the messages which are in them. Some very stong, some you may like or not like but there is a message trying to come across.

Sure, he made people a lot of money...

But that was never HIS goal. He never did it for the money. He did it so that people would feel what he was saying and try to change the world. Music was his outlet. He wasn't a "corporate whore." He never compromised his integrity, and all the money he actually made (which was very little by the way) was given to support his family. He frequently brought the homeless in to stay at his house.

I know it's hard to understand this, especially when you're socialist. But so am I and so was Tupac. He mother was a black panther, and everything that he had, he shared with others. The most important thing he shared with us was his heart.

Please don't disrespect him by calling him a whore...he was a socialist hero, and he deserves honor.

Peace.

"Even though our hands are chained like they are, they haven't taken music from us yet. So that's how I'll fight."

-Tupac Shakur

"We need to rebuild a movement capable of liberating our people. There's nothing we can do to bring Tupac back, but we can learn from his death. You can hear a lot of love in Tupac's work. We need to work to create a world where the Tupacs of the world can grow and love... I don't care who you are or what you do, when they put that microphone in front of you, try to make sure you have something worthwhile to say."

Suge Knight has been "ratted on" by a prison snitch. He has been directly implicated in the death of Biggie Smalls.

Tupac, for me, changed my life. Before I was politically awoken by the life and legacy of Che Guevara, I already had a person to be my role model : Tupac Shakur. Here was a man who fought demons his whole life. I don't need to explain anything about him, unless someone asks a question, and I will be willing to answer. But don't judge a book by its cover.

Thug Life.

Out of B.I.G, Tupac and Big L, the most tragic loss was Big L. At least Tupac managed to create classic music and get his message across before he died, also BIG has 'Ready 2 Die' and lived to the full while he was still alive. If Big L was alive today he would be the best rapper in the game along with Nas. He had soooo much potential. He was still using his razor-sharp mind to come up with brilliant punch-lines & one-liners (anyone heard his freestyle of 'Big Picture'?), imagine what would have happened when he grew up a bit and started considering things like government, poverty or whatever. To die at twenty-two and leave such potential...it hurts everyone.

R.I.P Big L

Interviewer: "Big L, peace man. Any words of wisdom?"

Big L: "Keep on lovin' Big L 'cos Big L love y'all. We gonna keep making hot music. The next album I'm gonna make is gonna be a classic. I'm not saying it just to blow my own horn or whatever. There's a difference between confidence and being cocky, and I'm real confident because I know what I'm capable of. It's gonna be crazy."

An interview in Holland that Big L gave; his last - he was killed four days later.

Canibus only under-achieved because he loses beefs.

I think he lost against Eminem. Against LL, I think he, at least, was equal to LL. 2nd Round KO was top quality.

By the way, that 7 minute free with Jay Z is from August 96, I believe, so its the 'old flow' Jay Z.
