I'm not exactly new here, I've been reading the boards for quite a while now but I'm going to start posting!
So here's the deal:
I'm studying in college in the UK and live in a relatively affluent area, there aren't exactly hordes of lefties here <_< in fact I'm one of circa 3 of the far left.. There are scarily quite a number of conservative supporters, luckily a great deal of them don't know why beyond the fact that they don't like Mr.Blair. On the whole most people are apathetic, with a large number of consumer whores
I wasn't always left, my original life plan was to join the military, I even suppported the Iraq war (not vocally) whether it could be justified or not, indeed, I was willing to die for my country and was perhaps one of the most patriotic people around of my age.
Fortunately we're doing Russia in history, I'd heard of coummunism before but knew little other than it was "a nice a idea that didn't work in practice", doing history prompted me to find out more and I came across the wikipedia article for communism (which, incidentally, led me to this site), it was from then on that I started realising I agreed with much of the ideas and points of view I was being presented with.
Since then my political standing has changed from my original verging on nationalism, to 'orthodox' marxism, to anarchist communism presently. Quite a turn around, so much for that 'life plan'
