I'm not exactly new here, I've been reading the boards for quite a while now but I'm going to start posting!

So here's the deal:
I'm studying in college in the UK and live in a relatively affluent area, there aren't exactly hordes of lefties here <_< in fact I'm one of circa 3 of the far left.. There are scarily quite a number of conservative supporters, luckily a great deal of them don't know why beyond the fact that they don't like Mr.Blair. On the whole most people are apathetic, with a large number of consumer whores

I wasn't always left, my original life plan was to join the military, I even suppported the Iraq war (not vocally) whether it could be justified or not, indeed, I was willing to die for my country and was perhaps one of the most patriotic people around of my age.

Fortunately we're doing Russia in history, I'd heard of coummunism before but knew little other than it was "a nice a idea that didn't work in practice", doing history prompted me to find out more and I came across the wikipedia article for communism (which, incidentally, led me to this site), it was from then on that I started realising I agreed with much of the ideas and points of view I was being presented with.

Since then my political standing has changed from my original verging on nationalism, to 'orthodox' marxism, to anarchist communism presently. Quite a turn around, so much for that 'life plan'

:) People who live off buying into the latest fashion to look 'cool' and who generally always need to have the latest 'in'-thing, the latest mobile phone etc.. They tend not to give much thought beyond material goods.

I don't think killing them is going to help anyone, can be tempting though :P

I think they think 'it'll pass' or that I'm not really serious, something along those lines

My mum used to be a socialist in her student days though has turned more apathetic, she still has left-wing sympathies however.

Hi, Comrade :)
I as you, agree with Communism, and I am frankly too SICK with hearing Communism this and that in parallell with Russia! To hell with that, The "Soviet-Union"? It's "decentralization" of power and "communes" (in Russian, Soviet = Communes) were as hollow as the heart of the "Vanguard" that ruled them....It's nationalistic collectivization of them made the land just another authotorian centralized empire!

Welcome, I too was a vehemently conservative Democrat before reading two novels called "Green Mars and Blue Mars".

I agree with you OleMarxco, many people do see communism as USSR/China/N.Korea, one of the great successes of the capitalist media!

Although it is one of the obstacles to winning people over to our way of thinking most people have no opposition to communism when they realise this is not the case other than several "it'll never work" arguments..

Bah, they are cynics disillusioned from the fact no Capitalistic land has ever taken the step over to Socialism, but Feudalistic lands who were used to such rulings! Of course it ended so. Perhaps Cuba was more Capitalistic..but it could never become Communistic so close to the U.S, with all the trade blocks and all - restraining it's economy. It WILL work, if we stay true on the track and hard on the endurance! I were of NO political swaying before I became Leftist, and I find it somewhat disturbing to see that you were Conservative Democrats from before and just carelessly changed to Leftism like that as if it were but another GAME? BAH! :)

Hi. My name is XPhile2868. I used to be a moderate conservative and Anglican. But i have realized that these views are reactionary and will not allow society to progress. I am now an Anarcho-Communist. Thanks for listening.

Hi comrade. Welcome to the group! Don't worry, I hate consumerist whores too! Almost two years ago I had not political affiliation whatsoever. I just never cared about political themes and about the abuse that so many people suffer each day because of the many corrupted capitalist goverments in the world of today. I became anarcho-communist when I stumbled upon a Che Guevara shirt that I saw in the nearby mall. I began doing research on the man and his beliefs. This all took me about one year. It was worth it. Every day I found another reason of following the Communist thinking. About my parents, they support me 100% in my revolutionary thinking. Just like comrade Non-Sectarian Bastrad! said, "Good Shit"! :D
