I wanted to make this post becasue i am getting sick of some of the gratuitous and apolitical attacks on America and the Americans.
I am not an Americazn. I oppose the American state and ruling class uin the same way that I oppose the british state. I recognize that the American state oppresses not only its own proletariat but is an agent imperialism.
However this does not mean that we forget the contradictions and struggles within America itself. It does not warrant a completely one-dimentional and unintellectual hatred of 'America' as the sum of all its people.
What do others think?

America (and, by extension, its government) doesn't represent the American people.
I'm petty sure that most of us have solidarity for the working class throughout the world - whether they live in England, America, Iraq, Cuba, Australia or Venezuela.
I can say for a fact that any anti-Americanism I present (and there probably is quite a bit of it) is actually my opposition to the US government and the big businesses that run it.

I agree with you Reuben, but I agree with Ciaran. When people say "America" they mean the gov't and all that shit.

I hate the American system so I've devoted my life to trying to improve some of the biggest victims of it inside its borders. Let's face facts, folks. Sewing an upside-down American flag onto your jacket when you could be volunteering to babysit the children of Welfare mothers is not the best use of your time.

Absolutely. I get tired of some of the people on here (although its not as bad as when I first joined) screaming "FUCK America!!" without attempting discussion on what needs to be done, then yelling at anyone trying to get into a civil discussion on the subject.

It's not like we're against all the people in America, we're against the imperialist entity that is the United States. My #1 political motivation is to encourage the downfall of it, and I believe it's a necessary prerequisite for true socialism to take root anywhere.
