American culture is celebrity obsessed people WORSHIP them and it seems like all people care about are material things. Why is Paris Hilton the most famous woman in America. My question is where are the Activist? Why arent they on the cover of magazines? What do they have to do to get on the covers to get their name out there? Do you have to be a celebrity, a rich politician or Ann Coulter to get any recognition? I'd like to see someone similar to MLK in the forefront is that going to happen I wonder? Our culture is going to shit. Education is going to shit.Kids a getting really fat and stupid. Is something going to change?
Because only smart people can apreciate Activism and only smart people can become Activists.
Edit: For clarification: The Avrage American is not very smart about such things.

I think that the American people just honestly don't care anymore(for the most part) therfore there aren't near as many said activists as there was in lets say the 60's. People are too caught up in being selfish and worrying about what is going on in there own lil world than to really open up their eyes an SEE what is happening with the world.....with the billions of dollars that are being spent on this war and I fear that this war will not be over and the goverment will not be satisfied until they have suceeded in blowing the entire planet up. Billions of dollars being wasted while the educational system is falling apart, poverty levels on the rise, AIDS wiping out entire villages...yet people are still going around screwing who ever and not using protection. I think that modern day society has chosen to replace their own eyes with Stevie Wonder's. Ignore it all and it'll go away. And I'm not going to get all holier than thou or anything because sometimes I too replace my eyes with Stevie Wonder's for the sheer fact that when I think about the state of the world that we are living in, I tend to start to get an anxiety attack. So many negative aspects in the world and people look at the US and think of it as the richest place on the planet, which it is, yet we still have millions of homeless and starving people, we are not immune to the HIV/AIDS virus (every hour in the US alone, 2 people under the age of 25 are newly infected with HIV).
There is just so much negative and not enough positive, I feel so very sorry for this generation coming up, the educational system is so fucked and these children will probably soon think of a book as an antique, so caught up as they are in trying to look like dancers on videos and wasting away in front of the tv. Groups need to be formed, strong groups, groups that REALLY GET OUT THERE AND MAKE THERE VOICE HEARD. There are some but not enough and the ones who are out there aren't yelling loud enough, aren't getting there message out to the masses aren't making themselves heard.

Well I think it is a combination of the people not caring, the people not being smart and most importantly having a shitty media. Right now their are just as many signifigant activists as their was in the 60's and all other generations, but now that the media is the fourth branch of the government, they will never tell us this. If you notice nothing real ever gets covered on the news they always divert attention to things like Terry Schiavo, the Michael Jackson trial and other various unimportant events. The only way to get news now is to rely on small independant papers like The Militant and such. This is probably why it would appear that their is a lack of activists, but if you look hard enough you'll find them.

In response to the remark about Terrie Schiavo, that was something very important for the American people to know about....the government took away her right to live! Took her husbands side rather than her own parents, the government had no right what so ever to do what they did to that poor woman. She starved to death, died of dehydration and starvation and then the US government turns around and calls itself a civilized country!

I dont think she should have been starved to death because they wont approve assistant suicide. politics made this women die for the second time under humiliation. Jazzy, a person in his position can't exactly be considered a person, really.

You do realise that her brain had been filled with spinal fluid, like a slushy. She had no thought left whatsoever, now this doesn't justify starvation but it is time to legalize euthanasia. Also, I live in the county where it took place, Pinellas County Florida. It had been news here for some time and she had been like this for years. And even if it was cruel and unusual punishment, it didn't deserve 3 weeks of national news coverage.
