In my studies I find that many groups of Communists are very extreme against opposing communist ideals. Some communist groups are racist as well.

For instance, in South America many of the communist guerilla factions would murder an American whether no matter what his ideology. I increasingly wish to travel to South America in search of answers, a sort of discovering of myself. Upon staying in South America I do not wish to take part in the imperialistic tourism that exists in the world today. Instead, I would rather venture there by myself, or with a few select friends, and actually get into the heart of the culture. Unfortunately, I am American and therefor I would instantly be captured or discriminated against, if not murdered.

What are your views on this issue? Any of you live in or visited S.A.?

I am not nor have not, but I am planning to -- Sometime. South America is Latin-America, allright, not the Southern-States of the U.S.? My views on this are in both directions (Unsure what you mean about "Imperialistic Tourism", 'tho, is that even a word? If so, what do you mean?): I suppose you Northern Americans have "deserved" this attitude, although it is a bit "generalising", of course. But however, "what can you expect" from people who have been oppressed for so long by their "imperialistic northern neighbour", eh? To greet tourists from there with open hands? Perhaps not....they would see you as potentional with-guilthy of the crimes, even if you are only of that nationality and perhaps totally outside of what the government has done to them (Another example of how the government seldomly represents the people). Seeing as I am Norwegian I will perhaps not meet such views, but, they might MISTAKE me for being one....American(ACK!). renember, 'tho, that to them you're not American, you're "North American", as they're too Americans, only SOUTHERN ones. If there is any communist groups who are racists then they are not TRUELY and purely a communistic one. A real communist group would embrace internationalism and class-spirit over patriot-spirit, and reject nationalism to nationless humanism for reason to revolt. Some groups just take "Communism" as ideal because of lack of choiche and alternative to Capitalism which they loathe even more than their understanding of the ideal, thus their initial disagreeing with the ideology they fight for because they chose an extreme view just to "be in opposition" to Capitalists! :D

Good point, and sorry about the distinction between North and South Americans.

I've tried to do research in tourist hostile communist groups in S.A. so I will understand which groups to avoid, but they obviously don't make their intent very public. It requires a lot of digging just to find a good, updated source of information on South American communism, let alone each faction's ideals and behaviors.
