Published in 2003, "Comrades: The rise and fall of World Communism" by British author Robert Harvey writes the following about Che:
"Guevara's band of motley intellectuals fought in the remote highlands until the security forces killed him in October 1967. Castro shed a few tears, secretly glad to be rid of Guevara, a political illiterate who questioned Cuba's totalitarian path. The revolution had run dry in Bolivia." [p.177]
On what basis does Harvey write of Fidel's so-called relief at Che's death? And just 'cause Che didn't remain in the Cuban administration (he was opposed to all forms of bureaucracy), this does not justify him being politically ignorant. We need to remind the author who was really the international face of the Cuban Revolution whilst Fidel was busy trying to consolidate his new government.
